You hit it squarely moomin, as to the effect on belief in the electoral system. I think PT Barnum once said "It ain't what you do, It's what the People think you do."

It's not whether any votes were actually changed or votes of those with room temperature IQ's were influenced by something they may(or may not) have read on Twitter or Facebook, it's the POSSIBILITY of that, which is crippling Government function, Voter's credibility and a misplaced belief by some they can 'turn back the clock' to November 2016.

The effect of malicious social media on those easily influenced, and how to deal with it is a far greater problem and harder to solve.

Apparently, voter ID Cards in conjunction with a National ID Card used to have bi-partisan support.

Back when there was a Military Draft in the USA. All boys when they turned 18 had to Register for Selective Service. We were issued a card which we were supposed to carry at all times to prove we were registered.

The structure is already in place...........every CITIZEN of the United States registers for Social Security. With a few 'tweaks' this could be expanded to include, or be used as, a National Voter ID system. But there should be one caveat as detailed in another of my much despised memes....
