I just listened to Dr. Ford's testimony on NPR, wow. Kavanaugh will have a tough row to hoe to counter her very convincing testimony. |

I just listened to Dr. Ford's testimony on NPR, wow. Kavanaugh will have a tough row to hoe to counter her very convincing testimony. The testimony was played out live on BBC News in the UK, too - sound and vision. We await the second round of testimony, but it seems incontrovertible that Dr Ford suffered a sexual assault as a teenager. She also asserted, quote unquote, that she was 100% certain that the assailant was now-Judge Kavanaugh . He says it wasn't him, and the third person allegedly in the room is refusing to testify. If it didn't happen, why not? Kavanaugh is going to have to pull a giant rabbit out of the hat to avoid labelling himself as a liar, in the eyes of this viewer at least. If the Senate appoints him to the Supreme Court after this, without at the very least an FBI fact-check, then the Court itself is diminished. |

Methinks he doth protest too much. And now he's invoking the supernatural. If we don't get at least a thunderbolt splitting the Capitol dome after this, I will be most disappointed. |

Kavanaugh had a very emotionally speech. He even shed some tears. Six times, perhaps more! Yes I saw the whole hearing! Come to think of the novel The Defence of a Fool by August Strindberg. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Defence_of_a_Fool As his stormy marriage to Siri von Essen was coming to an end, August Strindberg feared there was a secret conspiracy between the women of Europe, and they were planning to silence him by conducting a campaign to make people believe he was insane.Oh. It's not over, A delay in transmission. Now a counsel asking Kavanaugh questions like Dr Ford was asked. |

WH must have read this and tried in vain to correct it. https://www.salon.com/2018/09/26/wtf-is-wrong-with-kavanaugh-even-conservative-bro-culture-might-not-save-him-now/ Watching Kavanaugh navigate the minefield that had already been cleared for him by Fox on Monday night was nothing less than astounding. He was curiously incapable of expressing the emotion that would have been absolutely correct if his reputation was indeed being maligned by unfair and untrue allegations: anger. But Kavanaugh didn’t look angry. He looked frightened. He looked like he was experiencing what he should have gone through over 30 years ago when he was at Georgetown Prep. He looked like a cowardly little boy who had been caught doing something he knew he shouldn’t have done and was sitting on the couch in the living room inventing a pathetic story trying to make his excuses to his parents. |

Amazing the lifestyles of intellectuals, unlike the seething unwashed. Just wondering: Would Dr Ford have pursued this 36 years after the event had Kavanaugh been an average run-of-the-mill nobody? |

Well, that was extraordinary. May I say, from a British point of view, the process is completely alien. We err in the opposite direction. Judicial appointments - at whatever level, including our newly named Supreme Court - are private to the point of secrecy. There must be vetting, of course, but it's conducted in private and reports in secret. Not on TV. And - most crucially - there is no free flow between the political world and the judiciary. In the old days, retired elected politicians from the lower house were appointed - not elected - to the House of Lords. And the House of Lords also acted (in sub-committee) as the supreme Judicial body. But I can't remember a single case of a career/partisan politician serving on that judicial sub-committee. The testimony of Judge Kavanagh of his time as an advisor in the White House to George W. Bush just feels wrong to British ears. I thought the US constitution set up three balanced components of Government: Presidency (Executive), Congress, Judiciary. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_government_of_the_United_States). How is that regarded in the US now? The other observation from across the pond is that we're watching, yet again, an alpha male (self certified) with anger management problems. And who can't bring himself to speak the words 'Please ask the FBI to gather the wider evidence and present it to the committee'. |

Oh. I see. It's acceptable behavior for men (yelling, tears, being indignant) and not ever acceptable for women. Is Kavanaugh a suitable person to be a judge at the US Supreme Court for lifetime? Trump doesn't like sissies! Senator Mr. Kennedy asked Kavanaugh "Do you belive in God? OMG:( |

Would Dr Ford have pursued this 36 years after the event had Kavanaugh been an average run-of-the-mill nobody? Sirius, the answer is no. She clearly stated that the point of that was to keep him off the court, based upon her experience his morality should disqualify him. |
