There is a statute of limitations on tax returns of three years, unless the IRS has reasons to be suspicious.
As it is now about three years since Trump won the Primary, then his tax returns prior to that date should not be under audit.

Unless, of course, the IRS suspects irregularities or worse.......

The correct response, in this and most everything said against Trump, would be to consider the source and then totally ignore the noise.

None of the memo's in the Steele dossier have yet been disproven. Unless you have authenticated evidence to say otherwise.
