I find it funny that a right wing judge finds a basically republican designed health care plan unconstitutional, just because there was a democratic president in the white house when it was introduced.

And how the hell are the GOP going to find anything better in a short period of time when in the last 7 years they have failed to design one.

On another subject, I see the NC 9th alleged voter fraud investigations are getting wider and deeper. What Comes Next In That Contested Election In North Carolina

It gets worse. Now that these people no longer have insurance, the government is totally on the hook to pay for their emergency room visits for a cold. Cost billions of extra dollars. Does the tea party really want to bankrupt the country? I thought conservatives were supposed to be fiscal conservatives. Oh wait, they aren't conservative. They are the old Dixiecrats calling themselves tea libertarians! The party of Jim Crow and hate.

You are right, they can't propose one positive change. All they can propose is to rip things down in fits of spite and rage. Their only build project is to put up a Berlin wall, just like the Soviets did. How ironic.

Federal judge rules Obamacare unconstitutional

(Reuters) - A U.S. federal judge in Texas ruled on Friday that the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, is unconstitutional, a decision that was likely to be appealed to the Supreme Court.
No explanation, no legal analysis?

The British view (BBC) is

Twenty states argued the whole law was invalidated by a change in tax rules last year which eliminated a penalty for not having health insurance.

However, in 2017 Congress did repeal the requirement - the so-called individual mandate - that people buy health insurance or pay a tax penalty.

Two Republicans - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his Wisconsin counterpart Brad Schimel led the legal challenge.

Sitting in Fort Worth, US District Judge Reed O'Connor noted that a $1.5tn tax bill passed by Congress in 2017 eliminated the tax penalties which anyone who failed to obtain health insurance had to pay.

He ruled that the individual mandate was now unconstitutional.

As the individual mandate was an "essential" element of the ACA, the whole of Obamacare was therefore unconstitutional, Judge O'Connor said.

He said his ruling was concerned with the intentions of the 2010 and 2017 Congresses.

"The former enacted the ACA. The latter sawed off the last leg it stood on."
To this reader's eye, that looks like sloppy legislation by the 2017 Congress - maybe that's the act which is unconstitutional? Mind you, sloppy legislation is something the UK Parliament isn't immune from.

Not sloppy legislation, it accomplished exactly what was intended. There were not enough votes to completely reverse Obummercare but there were enough to reverse the mandate penalty. Those who wrote the bill knew that due to the SCOTUS ruling that it was a tax on an action, not a penalty for non-compliance to a required purchase, that removing the 'tax' portion would render the rest of the Un-affordable Healthcare Act in violation of the Constitution.

I'd say rather than sloppy it was a brilliant strategy. The sloppy legislation was in the original law which was shoved down everyone's throat by a Dim administration and Congress. Remember "We have to pass the bill to see what's in it". A 'one size fits all' approach does not work with healthcare. Why should a 61 year old single male be required to pay for coverage to include maternity benefits?

Governments have historically and without fail been absolutely, totally incompetent at managing ANY endeavor efficiently.

With apologies to Pink Floyd...."It's Just Another Chink in The Wall" of Obummercare which will come tumbling down.

Silly question.
In that case, why should anybody pay tax at all?
Leaving infrastructural things like schools, hospitals, elderly care, army, police, roads, bridges, transportation and lot of other things to only those people who use them at the time and can afford to paying for it upfront.
I for one doesn't use school, elderly care and army.
But I have been to school and soon would like some elderly care and maybe will need an army in the future.
I think it's called a society when all pay some taxes to share burdens.

Why should a human being be required to pay for coverage to include maternity benefits?
There, fixed it for you.

Why should a single person be taxed at a higher rate than a married couple?
Why should there be tax deductions for having children?
Why should we care if there are descendants?
Why should we care about global warming?

All are the same issue. It is one of the seven deadly sins; GREED!

Which is why health care over in the U.S. costs 700% more than it does here.

But those figures are probably what a person pays when getting sick and get medical care.
Yes. Most countries have that system that all people in the society pay tax, call it an insurance, so that if you get sick also can afford to pay the bills.
Now the US have another problem because medical care in the US cost twice as much comparing with OECD countries!
Despite or thanks to Tax, ObamaCare, TrumpCare or whatever.
Oh. I forgot. In the US there are many poor lawyers to pay...

100 percent is due to that, the next 100 percent due to there being zero medical quality assurance enforcement, the remaining 500 percent is due to contingency fee agreements for lawyers and punitive damages. Yes, GREED

https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/17/politics/michael-flynn-business-partner/index.html
Two former business associates of former national security adviser Michael Flynn were charged with trying to influence American politicians to seek the extradition of a Turkish cleric, according to an indictment filed in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Bijan Rafiekian, also known as Bijan Kian, and a Dutch-Turkish businessman Kamil Alptekin, who also uses the first name Ekim, were charged with conspiracy and acting as an agent of a foreign government. Alptekin was also charged with making four false statements in a May 2017 FBI interview.
The charges come amid a sweep of prosecutions of individuals illegally lobbying for foreign governments -- previously a rarely charged crime -- and amid special counsel Robert Mueller's inquiry into influence in the 2016 presidential campaign.

For such a wealthy man, I think we have to start calling him Scrudge, from the WaPo report,
The smallest, a $7 foundation gift to the Boy Scouts that same year, appeared to benefit Trump’s family. It matched the amount required to enroll a boy in the Scouts the year that his son Donald Trump Jr. was 11.
