Kavanaugh of misconduct — to the Department of Justice for a criminal probe, alleging that they made “materially false” statements to Grassley’s committee as it investigated the allegations.

but right-wing commentators and pro-Trump pundits are already claiming to have identified the culprit by asking themselves a simple question: Who benefits most from an apparent terrorist plot against the president’s enemies?

The answer, they say, is Democrats, so Democrats must therefore have hatched the scheme as part of an elaborate hoax designed to drum up a negative news cycle for Trump and the GOP in order to boost their party’s chances in the upcoming midterm elections.

I located a thought-provoking article published in one of psychology’s top journals, Psychological Science, which in essence confirms this.

Hodson and Busseri (2012) found in a correlational study that lower intelligence in childhood is predictive of greater racism in adulthood, with this effect being mediated (partially explained) through conservative ideology. They also found poor abstract reasoning skills were related to homophobic attitudes which was mediated through authoritarianism and low levels of intergroup contact.

Further, studies have indicated an automatic association between aggression, America, and the news. A study conducted by researchers at Cornell and The Hebrew University (Ferguson & Hassin, 2007) indicated, “American news watchers who were subtly or nonconsciously primed with American cues exhibited greater accessibility of aggression and war constructs in memory, judged an ambiguously aggressive person in a more aggressive and negative manner, and acted in a relatively more aggressive manner toward an experimenter following a mild provocation, compared with news watchers who were not primed” (p. 1642). American “cues” refers to factors such as images of the American flag or words such as “patriot.” Interestingly, this study showed this effect to be independent of political affiliation, but suggested a disturbing notion that America is implicitly associated with aggression for news watchers.

Well, there always were two possibilities.

The simple one: right wing nut hates democrats, sends bombs to democrats.

The complicated one: left wing nut loves democrats, sends bombs to democrats to ...? Encourage more democrat sympathisers to vote for them?

The second one certainly requires more abstract thought processes, so in a way it's flattering to the left to ascribe that capacity to them.

But the arrest suggests that the simple (in all senses of the word) possibility is the correct one - as always seemed likely.

Packages with bombs sent by mail this week to prominent political figures and critics of President Donald Trump appear to have been littered with spelling mistakes.

The package addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan — which Business Insider has seen pictures of — misspelled his name as "Brenan" and misidentified the TV network he contributes to.

It listed Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida as the sender but spelled her name as "Shultz" and her home state as "Florids."

I'm gratified to see everyone has it all figured out less than 2 hours after the arrest, motive, psychology and everything.......

I prefer to let the dust settle for a few days, let the EXPERTS figure out what happened and not engage in letting knees spasm into chins.

The cable squawking heads(on both sides) will do enough of that for everyone. The facts will be discovered and everyone really does need to take a step back, remember we are all in this boat(America) together and though we disagree, do so in a manner respectful of Individuals.
