Fishing and hunting isn't exactly an activity that fully reflects the diversity of American society. Efforts made to address that are, I think, (or were anyway) gradually beginning to pay dividends (which I'm sure all you hunting types out there will be pleased to hear) so whilst your point one day might have some validity to it, I'm not certain it has now.

In the meantime, I am sorry you feel offended, Dull. My search for images only comprised the term "taking the bait". My thought when I posted it, was in the context of being offered a baited hook on an internet forum, and taking it myself as an objective admission-accusation-reminder on how we all here, whether deliberately or inadvertently, find we're somehow in a fishing tournament even if we're not the one holding the rod. I didn't really think about it being reposted though. Perhaps if I had known how often that would be, I might have passed by the tasty worm that JE posted for us ;) and had a sweet instead.

If it helps, the cartoon was created in 2005, and from a little research into its creator, I gather he's a retired photographer who really enjoys fishing and not, from what I've managed to uncover, a soothsayer of future presidents. Would he have even known your golden hero would have a Republican base when the cartoon came into being, given how Donald Trump has wandered between encampments like he has?

Apply 'blackface' or brown shades, or mongoloid eye fold, and the axe would quickly fall on that cartoon. White males have become one of the only 'non-protected' classes of discrimination in the US. And if wearing a hat supporting the President of the United States they are subject to confrontation, assault, violence and ridicule.
