The reason for the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution is very neatly summed up by the phrase 'to defend against all threats, both foreign and DOMESTIC.'
The founders of the US were confronted with mass confiscation of their 'Brown Bess's and realized that was a way used by the 'Mad' King to crush all opposition.

That can NEVER happen again in a US with an estimated 100 Million PRIVATE citizens owning firearms(and growing everyday).

You are completely free to do whatever you wish in your Society, except own a firearm. Because you have given up that means of defense your Governing elite know they can 'make you get into the boxcars' any time they want.

A 'speedy trial', is promised for citizens of the US. Not for enemy combatants, caught killing those citizens and who may have knowledge that would save other American lives. An enemy combatant who cuts the throat of a kneeling person with their hands tied behind them can rot until eternity in Gitmo.....IMHO of course.
