Message 2019714 - Posted: 20 Nov 2019, 1:36:50 UTC - in response to Message 2018913.

Thanks for the update. I have been scouring the used market for a 1080, and am blown away that that 1660ti goes nearly toe to toe with it. Very impressive. Rethinking the path forward, that's for sure.
And although it's not on the list yet (since it's just been released) the GTX 1660 Super is meant to be on par (or even slightly better) than the 1660Ti, and it's cheaper.

https://www.pcmag.com/review/371538/zotac-geforce-gtx-1660-super-twin-fan

Seems to think the 1660ti has 240 more cuda cores than the Super while running at par or less in power under the same "load".

The Ti version may have more cores, but for compute work the Super version is generally on par or better performance wise.

GTX 1660 Super compute performance.

So is it possible the "Super" has not been added to the website that " update-pciids" updates from?

440.26 is the oldest driver you can use for that card.

its possible that you have some strange conflict going on with remnants from your 430 driver that you had previously installed.

try to purge all nvidia drivers.

sudo apt purge *nvidia*

then reinstall the 440 drivers
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-440

then reboot.

Did that. Then ran the update again. And the testing listing. No change.
Is it possible you have to re-boot before the name will actually update in the displayed area?

Hi Keith,

So according to that page this should be done regularly?

Ok, so I did the update. I did a "lspci" before and then after. Now I see a change for my M.2 NVMe drive controller. It was:
06:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd NVMe SSD Controller SM981/PM981

And is now:
06:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd NVMe SSD Controller SM981/PM981/PM983

I also see that this:
00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation 200 Series PCH HD Audio
00:1f.4 SMBus: Intel Corporation 200 Series/Z370 Chipset Family SMBus Controller
00:1f.6 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V

02:00.3 Serial bus controller [0c80]: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1aed (rev a1)

Has changed to this:

Everything from the Ethernet controller on down is different after the update. Is there anything I need to do?

Have a great day! :)

If I am understanding it correctly this only changes the "labels" of the hardware but doesn't change the functionality at all. So I don't think you need to do anything.

Correct.
Tom was complaining the labels were missing from his 1660 Super card. Thought that might resolve the issue.

@Shaggie: What happened to the RTX Nvidia cards?
? They're there in the most recent graph.
Right here in fact. ;-)

Cheers.

Who would have thought that the price on eBay is now lower for EVGA gtx 1660 Ti cards than it is for EVGA gtx 1660 Super cards (at least some are).

Plus the EVGA Supers seem to be a bit scarce.

My results so far seem to be very encouraging. It's fastest times are the lowest on the machine. And I haven't caught it going slower than a 1 minute and 30 seconds or so which puts it right in there with my gtx 1070's. I haven't actually tried to download an XML and sort the info out. But the spot checks are very encouraging.

Hi,

Reality is now that the top 200 are almost all Linux machines running with the special app. GPU FLOPS are of no interest as long as they are wasted.

If someone is willing to run a curiosity check on those machines and make a rough estimate of performance and wattage I'd be pleased.
The wattage can be taken from the manufacturer data or from a questionnaire from actual users running "nvidia-smi -l"

That would guide the Santa to deliver the right present to the best behaving children and adults who do not like to obey M$ or other rules.
