That is not really a failing of the US system. A snap election? It takes a long time to have an election at the Federal level. At least a 2-year gap between them. The next one starts right after the last one is over, and that is just for the Congressional portion. At the Presidential level, it takes a lot longer. Only one election every 4 years for President is about as often as it can be held. Remember, the campaign for President in 2020 started either right after the 2016 election or somewhat before, depending on how you want to look at it. PLEASE no more often than that. We couldn't take it. Arrrgggghhh.

We don't really need 'snap elections' anyway. Vacancies in Congress are filled by a mixture of appointments and special elections, depending on the State and the Office (House or Senate) which is vacant.

A Vacancy in the Office of Vice President is filled by the President nominating a new Vice President, and both the House and the Senate holding a simple majority vote to confirm the nomination. This has been used once... Ford.

A Vacancy in the Office of President is filled, per the Constitution, through a very specific (and somewhat lengthy) line of succession. One goes down that list and the first one that is eligible to serve is President.



While you might be technically correct in saying that "But Pence doesn't have to be the automatic next President", it would be quite a job to prevent it. Also, doing so would make Speaker Ryan the next President.

But after Pence is removed, Trump is the ONLY one that can nominate a new VP, and Congress is the only one that can confirm one until Trump is removed. So we would go without a VP during those likely months until Congress could finish the job removing Trump... Unless Congress wants to confirm one of Trump's nominations for VP. Removing Pence, then Trump, without confirming one of Trump's (likely Bozo) choices for VP would make Speaker Ryan the President... You want that?

It was another news site that reported the drop in support at the pro45 news channel, but it gave no details as to why. And as I copied it was a large drop in approval by his core supports which makes it interesting. Maybe some of them are beginning to see that hasn't and will not do anything for them.
