Message 1876913 - Posted: 5 Jul 2017, 17:09:21 UTC

Good Day,
The following have died on me recently

NVIDIA
GTX Titan
780
550ti

AMD
280x

The computers were all in a air conditioner environment and not over heating or anything. There is no dust in the systems.

Is it me or just normal for GPUs to die?

Thank you

It must be just you as I've only had 1 die on me and that was a long time ago with a 9800GT whose fan decided to take a tour around other parts of the case at the time while I wasn't around. :-)

Cheers.

At first I was going to mention a bad power supply, but then I looked and saw haw many systems you have. I suppose it could be a weird spike in the mainline power, but then you should have failures of other system components. Data processing on the GPU is hard on it because it drives the clocks high 24/7. With the number of systems that you have and the variety of cards failing, I suspect you're just seeing a normal failure rate and a run of bad luck.

If you say there is no dust in the systems, you must have one of these:

Otherwise, you may be missing some. One of the best purchases I ever made... pays for itself in a few months not needing those gawdawful weaksauce cans that miss half the dust and spray liquid if they're anything but vertical.

Yup, best investment I ever made. Man, does it blow out the dust in the case and radiators...

Nice... didn't know you had one as well. I had recommended them to TBret when he was having dust issues and he bought one ASAP (and loved it.)
So there we go... semi-official GPUUG seal of approval I'd say. :^)

Got one here, too. Only complaint I have is that it seems too much air blows out around the seam in the can, which reduces the pressure coming out of the nozzle.

Hi,

A nice apparatus,
Does anyone know if that is available for 230V?

I vacuum every 4 Tuesdays my GPUs from behind and from above but a blow job to remove all stuck hairy balls would do them really good I guess :)

Hmmm. I think I'll try and avoid the temptation to make a comment, not unlike those from the Carry On films! I used to use an air compressor to clean out my PCs - the dust that thing blew out, was amazing. Maybe you could get a small capacity, cheap one, Petri - if you have a car, you'll soon find other uses for one. Must get myself another one....my ex, took mine and an AC inverter I had for using it on 12V. Can't help thinking that the OPs graphics cards, just have a hard life, although I did originally wonder about the PSU(s) being used.

I think it is safe to use that one instead of the 110V one I saw. I'll get one. THX.

The dust. Yes. And in a closed compartment like a car. It really does fly, especially in the eternal sunshine of the northern nights.

I'll dust my car too. Thanks.

My cheap Harbor Freight 8 gallon/125 psi air compressor was only $25 more than the blower talked about. It has more uses also in powering air tools and keeping the tires at pressure. You need a garage though which also provides the space for defurring the computers and graphics cards.

This one sounds more like what I need. I can defur all my parts with a suitable nose.
