Depends on whether you wrote your own app_info or used the canned one in the special app package. I used that one and it was already set up for the special app and a AP OpenCL app as well as the usual MB cpu app. I didn't have to do anything and it grabbed both MB and AP tasks. I later decided to change over to the AVX versions instead of the SSSE3 versions. It just ran without tinkering with app_info at all.

*edit* just came back in and looked, only the 1050 fan is (still) running, but then, not sure how hot the card is going to get running a GPU task now and again. Should it kick on if it's needed? and where/how did you get that nice Nvidia info screen showing them running in 1, 2 or 3? Another sudo DL?

Time to increase cache size.

If you set the cache small, that would explain the lack of GPU work. Takes a while for the estimated times to settle down.


*edit* just came back in and looked, only the 1050 fan is (still) running, but then, not sure how hot the card is going to get running a GPU task now and again. Should it kick on if it's needed

Most video card these days seem to have a quiet mode- the fan won't run if the GPU temperature is below a certain setting. The GPU BIOS determines what the target temperature is, for no fan operation and for maximum GPU temp.

I personally don't bother with modifying the GPU fan speed curves. My GTX 750Tis aren't working that hard, and the GTX 1070s appear to be set at the factory for around a 65°c operating target. If the GPU temps get above 64° or so, the fans crank up. When they get below 65°c or so, they slow down gain.

Opened her up wide open, got a breathtaking 16 tasks, again only 1 on the GPU. So _this_ is what you guys have been talking about. As I mentioned, I haven't seen/noticed any issues for the most part with tasks on my Windows crunchers, though of course I'm not monitoring them all day just watching for this to happen, so it's possible they have seen that issue as well. Well, I guess I will just let it sit and work for a while, and also, for whatever reason, my changing my screen saver to not power down the display and put it into power save mode with the blue LED light instead of the normal green, didn't work, it still shuts off. I'll have to dig further.

Just checked a couple minutes ago, whatever meager tasks were in there are now gone, and there are none to be found. An nope, at least when I got back there, none of the other cards were running. It's just bizarre to not have any GPU tasks on a non-maintenance day. Do you think it will clear itself up once it's had a chance to grind for a day or so? If not, I will probably have to set this one up running Windows again, all I have to do is hook back up the HD's and it will be good to go. _That_ would be a bummer though.

The Scheduler has been acting up for over 5 hours. Generally not getting any work, then 20 or 30 WUs, then none for a while.
Just picked up 50+ WUs 3 minutes a ago.

It's times like this flipping the application settings sometimes works.


EDIT- looks like there's a batch of Arecibo VLAR work coming through again.
You'd think with the GBT work being available, the Arecibo VLAR numbers would be a smaller percentage of the total available than when it was Arecibo only, but for some reason it seems to stop any other GPU work from being downloaded regularly.
Just batches of WUs every 10-20 Scheduler requests, with nothing at all in between.

I really, really wish they would fix the Scheduler.

Yuppers, patience was the key. Just took a look again, pretty much all loaded up, so I am going to be letting it run all night and see what happens, it appears to be running properly, and the fans have even kicked on. Not spinning wildly, but at least they are on. Hopefully things will continue to be stable, the cards are a little bit hot to the touch, nothing scorching but I think I'd prefer them running a bit faster than they are, so I'll have to look further into the fan control. Does that also show GPU temps as well? Thanks again for your help getting this thing up and running, it'll be interesting to see how it's RAC compared to when it was running Windoze.

In a terminal window type:
nvidia-smi -l

That will show you the temp, fan speed, and usage of each GPU.
You will have to stretch the window higher to see all them cards, LOL.

Interesting, thanks. Was hoping for a GUI, but I forgot, this is Linux, they don't do GUI... ;-) lol Well, thanks again and have a great night guys. This will be classified as a partial success in my book, it's up and running, but still needs a little bit of tweaking and enhancements to get it the way I'd like it. But at least it works!

Interesting, thanks. Was hoping for a GUI, but I forgot, this is Linux, they don't do GUI... ;-) lol Well, thanks again and have a great night guys. This will be classified as a partial success in my book, it's up and running, but still needs a little bit of tweaking and enhancements to get it the way I'd like it. But at least it works!

For GUI screens you can load up lm-sensors and do a sensors-detect from root to query the system's sensors. Then load GKrellm for a graphical display of the CPU usage and also the fans and temps of the GPUs. I just have GKrellm load at startup and locked to the desktop for quick reference. GKrellm has become my substitute for SIV in Windows in Linux.
