Perhaps his phone company has a filter to reject calls from India.

Message 1884345 - Posted: 17 Aug 2017, 1:27:01 UTC - in response to Message 1884289.

Over the years I have received about one per week and as recent as yesterday afternoon I received one of these "free cruise" scam calls...

You Could Be Entitled to $300 if You Received This Spam Call. Here’s How to Check

The most effective way to fight telemarketers? Sue them and force a settlement—one worth up to $12.5 million.

If you received one of these calls, you could get up to $300 per call you received (up to $900 per phone number). To find out if you qualify, you can check out the class action’s website and search to see if your phone number qualifies.

According to the settlement agreement, only those who have their phone numbers are listed in Resort Marketing Group’s database are eligible for a payment. The pre-recorded calls went out between July 23, 2009 and March 8, 2014. All claims must be postmarked by November 3, 2017, or electronically filed by 11:59 p.m. (PT) on November 3, 2017.

I registered today for both my current number and my former cell number.

Of course, the maximum payout is $12 million, and the attorneys' fees come out of that, so I may be lucky to get 20 bucks for the two lines.

The most effective way to fight telemarketers? Sue them and force a settlement—one worth up to $12.5 million.

A Chicago judge approved a settlement last month that forces Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and a marketing company that worked with them to pay up for spamming people with pre-recorded telemarketing calls that promoted the cruise lines.

The problem? These calls allegedly violated the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, or TCPA, because the marketing company contracted to initiate the calls, Resort Marketing Group, didn’t have people’s permission to contact them.

If you received one of these calls, you could get up to $300 per call you received (up to $900 per phone number). To find out if you qualify, you can check out the class action’s website and search to see if your phone number qualifies.

Neither my number, nor my parents' number is included in this suit.

I think I'm getting a bit pissed at how many places have had their entire DB's ripped and how much cross matching and big data the damn scammers are doing. Time for a roundup.

Now I have 2 numbers, both sort of local to Me, you dial them up trying to figure out if it's the new number of a friend who has not called in a while, and it's a recording, saying they will put you on their do not call list, if you do nothing, the place you called hangs up, they've got your number, I've been getting calls from out of state and from at least one 800 number, no I don't answer those.
The number that called Me today and yesterday, I black listed today with an Android app called "call blocker".

760-699-0080 Palm Springs CA, a search said that.

760-829-9901 Camp Pendleton, California, unlikely, but I don't know for sure.

I get these spoofed numbers on my Land line, Cell phone, and Google Voice numbers several times per week. New number every time they call.

Been going on for quite a while now with the "Next Door Neighbor calling scam": Spoofing a neighbor's phone call.

It's just a mere annoyance to Me, but still I did sick the blacklist on them, the other numbers, I drag to the left, which sends them to voice mail or they hang up.

Most just hang up, even My friends get these.

[UPDATE:]

So, it seems that the Scammers are finding ways around Nomorobo... I'm now testing out a "New Toy" called CPR "Callblocker" Model V5000. It's supposed to have 5000 Scammer Type Calls already programmed into it for blocking. To that, one may add in manually up to 1500 more Telescammer Calls.

I've programmed in my Area Code and Prefix as "One Number Set" to be blocked. Oh, and it seems to be working with Vonage just fine. :-) I'll be monitoring this device for the next 30 Days, and if it continues to work as expected, I'll let you all know and THEN start recommending the device. It uses ONLY the power from the RJ-11 line. So, my Vonage Device in the computer closet area sends its signals through the house at the wall jack in the closet, and then from the RJ-11 Jack in my bedroom is plugged into the V5000. THEN, (in serial), from the V5000 to my answering machine. My answering machine has a keypad and Caller ID Screen built into it, and then the answering machine base unit has 3 cordless handsets.

In Serial mode, I can remotely block calls/program the V5000 from any of my 3 Cordless Handsets, or from my Base Unit; or, if I'm near the V5000 and a Telescammer calls in, I hit the BIG RED BUTTON on the the V5000 and the call is instantly blocked. The device is NOT made in China, AND there's even a FREE Customer Service/Tech Support Number - should I need it; or have any questions about the device. (If necessary, the Device can be hooked up in Parallel... I tried that; but found that I COULD NOT make use of my cordless handsets to remotely program the Device.)

Actually, the number was listed via Amazon in an Ad for the device on Amazon. I decided to call it, before ordering, and the manufacturer gave me a better deal by ordering direct instead of ordering from Amazon. So, for now, the Free Number seems to be a good thing. In fact, the Representative who called me back from CPR Callblocker gave me a Direct Number to her desk. So, ANY problems or questions, I can call her back directly.

Seems like a good thing to me, so far... :-)

Well, so far so good. The number of Caller ID Spoofers has dropped since deactivating Nomorobo, and installing the CPR CallBlocker V5000. It's programmed, now, to block "Rogue VoIP Scammers", "Name Unavailable, Unknown Number", my Area Code and Prefix combo, "11925" - (an additional "1" was added to new Scammer Calls' Caller IDs coming in to my Area Code and Prefix to get past Nomorobo), and International Calls with "00" as the start of the Caller ID Info.

I was initially concerned about the "Rogue VoIP" Block; as my Psychiatrist's number is on Vonage, (recommended by me some years ago), and I DID NOT want his number blocked. I, thankfully, got a successful Incoming Call from his office, yesterday. The V5000 seems to be pretty flexible, I'm quite impressed with it. :-)

I didn't realize there were 3rd Party Apps for Cell Phones... My iPhone has the ability through iOS to directly "Block Contact" on any call I don't recognize. Pretty cool that there are now 3rd Party Apps. My V5000, though, is "Home Line" use; my service has been with Vonage since 2005.

If you have AT&T they offer a free app, AT&T Call Protect. It really cut down the calls that I have to block manually.
