That neither side in this Subject understands this. Is the real problem. That is where you keep cocking up. Many are aware of the results of either solution. However, your solution that the lesser of two evils doesn't help you when you keep shouting about the deaths of a billion. Wouldn't the lesser evil produce a massive death total? So, once again you are asked: Just what is your solution to prevent said deaths? |

Nobody as far as I can see are disagreeing with you on that. With the questions being posed, you keep coming back with that same old record. They're dead, neither you or I can bring them back to life, so once again, rather that pose senseless questions, how about answering one: What is your solution to prevent such massive death scales in the future regardless of where in the world it may happen? Bear in mind though, that your statement: "The world's policeman is going home as they're broke" must bear some impact on your solution. |

The Russian reaction: http://tass.com/world/963362 North Korean nuclear test poses no threat to Russian Far East Remember Putin put impotent tRump who has zero foreign policy experience in office and is giving Kim rocket engines. tRump obliged Putin by cutting the State Department and I don't mean the tit for tat spat on embassies. Hillary was Putin's nightmare. What's tRump going to do? Run to his lawyers and have them file bankruptcy?! |

Unfortunately for you, I cannot grab a hold of Harry Potter's "Elder Wand" & change history to match your views of history. What happened, happened, as a history teacher, shouldn't you at least be providing some feasible solutions to the problem rather than remain fixated on your favourite bugbear? |

Or agree with China, JapanChina sees a unified Korean peninsula under Kim. Japan sees Korea as a source of comfort women. Interesting that this is what you want the USA to agree to. I guess Tut is correct and the Pacific west of the Date line all belongs in The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Oh, the UK draws lines in the sand that cause wars as they intentionally pit people against themselves for fun and profit. USA did that with the 38th. |

...so one must do what they think is right :-)What has history shown us? BUT, wouldn't that involve lots of death? AND would some future Internet forum posters decry those deaths knowing full well that they were neither there participating or even alive at that time? |

The Russian reaction: But that Russian article was only about if the radiation level is within safe limits. I thought it was clear that Russia condemn NK escalation with nuclear weapons. https://sputniknews.com/asia/201709031057048131-north-korea-nuclear-test/ |

...so one must do what they think is right :-)Of course it will. AND would some future Internet forum posters decry those deaths knowing full well that they were neither there participating or even alive at that time? And of course THEY will, it's what they do............ "Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press Whoever it is I wish they'd cut it out but when they will I can only guess." ..."People see me all the time and they just can't remember how to act Their minds are filled with big ideas, images and distorted facts....." But those that know realize those 'future internet forum posters" for what they are......... "Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth, Blowing down the back roads headin' south. Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth, You're an idiot, babe. It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe." -Bob Dylan "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

The Israel Iron Dome is the US's Patriot Missile system. And the information gathered from its use has gone into upgrades of other systems. I agree that the systems could use some more testing, so when you have a madman launching test missiles into the Sea of Japan, why not make use of them to test the Navy's systems. China probably would go along with it, just for the information, they could gather from the intercepts. |

Back to North Korea? So, which option do you suggest? Sirus B: Hmm... Well, C (between the DPRK and the rest of the world) has not worked in the DPRK problem yet over the more than 64 years it has been tried. A. is ultimate horror (part of what we wish to prevent). This leaves B as the only possibility (full of danger that it will go A). The situation is grim. An exclusive reliance on C since 1953 is what has produced this... problem. Even Japan is suffering pucker-factor 9.9 right now. The Japanese Government (even though an offensive-capable military is forbidden by their Constitution) is trying to buy cruise missiles to use in a preemptive strike on the DPRK. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AS_JAPAN_NKOREA_PREEMPTIVE_STRIKE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2017-09-01-23-30-16 And who can blame them? The DPRK a few days ago did a missile launch that passed over Japan and flew on well beyond it. And then, in the last day or so, the DPRK did another nuke test, this one with a yield (100 kilotons -- very much greater than their previous ones) 6 or 7 times greater than each of the two nukes dropped on them ending WWII. Kim and/or the DPRK General staff (depending on your opinion of which is truly in power in the DPRK now) are crazy as a bed of moles. You can't successfully engage in Diplomacy with people that far disconnected from Reality. Yes, we ALL wish that a diplomatic solution could be found that would avoid mass civilian causalities... but... wish in one hand and s*** in the other and see which one fills up first. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

The Russian reaction: sputniknews is not official state media, nor has it been in operation for any length of time. Tass is and predates the cold war. Perhaps this http://www.pravdareport.com/opinion/columnists/30-08-2017/138551-north_korea_proud-0/ might be interesting. Few foreigners know this but here it is: most South Koreans admire their brothers and sisters in the North, the DPR Korea. The USA does not know this because such feelings are shared in private but then again what can you do if you have a foreign power on your soil controling your policy? Some react, others lie in bed with their master. Or maybe this http://www.pravdareport.com/opinion/columnists/27-08-2017/138520-north_korea_reality-0/ The mention of one tiny country appears to strike at the rationality and sanity of those who should know far better. On Sunday, 6th August, for example, The Guardian headed an editorial: "The Guardian view on sanctions: an essential tool." Clearly the average of five thousands souls a month, the majority children, dying of "embargo related causes" in Iraq, year after grinding year - genocide in the name of the UN - for over a decade has long been forgotten by the broadsheet of the left. |

No it isn't. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Dome#Specifications The system is designed to counter short-range rockets and 155 mm artillery shells with a range of up to 70 kilometers. According to its manufacturer, Iron Dome will operate day and night, under adverse weather conditions, and can respond to multiple threats simultaneously. |

Well I was going to suggest that at this point the U.S. make a strong statement that they will not initiate a military action but if Kim does to the U.S. or any of its allies the response will be swift and utterly catastrophic to North Korea, and presto, there it is... US warns North Korea of "massive military response" if Kim Jong-un attacks America or its allies Defence Secretary Jim Mattis on Sunday shot back at North Korea's latest nuclear provocation with a blunt threat, saying the U.S. will answer any North Korean threat with a "massive military response -- a response both effective and overwhelming." While he said America does not seek the "total annihilation" of the North, he added somberly, "We have many options to do so." |

This in spite of his having said in the same statement: "There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea. Absolutely."Would that be the United Nations in conflict with North Korea or the United States? @MK, you're preaching to the choir. The question was directed at the history teacher, who we see as seen, disparages all options but does imply that the lesser of two evils prevails, which only extends his comments regarding deaths of a billion to date which includes himself as he cannot see the forest for the trees. Since the dropping of the two atom bombs in 1945, Pandora's box has been opened with the biggest fear being that of a crazy leader in control of nukes. Does anyone really think that sanctions against Iran will really prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons? If not North Korea, it will be somebody someday. Not a nice thought for the future is it? |

Trump tweeted this today "The United States is considering, in addition to other options, stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea." Can the US afford to stop trading with for instance all these countries? North Korea’s Top Trading Partners |

Understanding what might be the outcome of any action or inaction. Me too, but I do think that the U.S. has to state firmly to Kim that he can sabre-rattle and test all he wants but any actual action is over the line just so that it is clear. Every country has a right to defend itself if attacked (not for overreacting to schoolyard bully taunts) and nothing that the U.S. has done in the recent past has warranted these threats; Kim is completely the aggressor. Hopefully if he does plan on actually going over the line his generals will spare many innocent North Korean civilians by hosting their own performance of Julius Caesar... I still think he is trolling, as he knows perfectly well what the result will be if he is not, and he will have no one to blame but himself. |
