The SETI@home Fall 2016 fundraiser has begun. If you haven't received your fundraising letter you can find it here.

The abundance of data has made our funding needs a little more demanding this year, so we're hoping you can help us out a bit more.

As always, thanks for running SETI@home

What about the spinning star? Or a golden brown one for the Fall fundraiser?

Dear Mr. Korpela,

Would you be okay with using your Bitcoin-Donation-Adress (1DuKPGnQ16TJpDUKS1CgWvrdVKtRTGPgir) as a target adress for mining income?

I have some spare mining power which i would point to a pool using this adress.

I won't use this adress for that purpose unless you comply with that kind of use.

Sincerely,
djoser.

Some of the folks at bitcoinutopia are looking to do another fundraiser for SETI@home as well, but I think it requires the admins to give the go ahead.

Just out of curiosity . The current flood of data requires more processing power than SETI@home volunteers currently provide. Whats the ratio on stuff we manage to cover and what is incoming from telescopes ?

Guys, if you expect someone to donate - you'd might want to consider FIXING DONOR LIST. ;)

From what I understand there is funding, but it's created more work than the funding covers.
I'm going to make up numbers. Lets say every $1 of funding is creating $10 of work & no one is providing the other $9. So resources are spread super thin.

The annual Autumn Fall fundraiser is a regular event, I don't think any particular recognition is really required. Spinning stars etc were special one off's, depending upon the level of contributions from those that were fortunate enough to be able to do so. This is more aimed at those that are happy to give $10 $20, or $30 or so.

But by all means it would be nice to recognise any and every contribution, in addition to the usual thanks from UCB, provided the coding can be done.

It would be great to know how the Fall fundraiser went...how much did you raise or raise to date?

I was happy to contribute and hope you are hearing from others!

Best wishes Byron. I am nearing 82. Roger Penrose, 85, has just written a new book attacking all contemporary physics. Long life to him.

And a special thanks for whomever gave the $7,000.00 donation in December.

I contributed indirectly by purchasing additional hardware to process more data. I now have four modest machines dedicated exclusively to running SETI fulltime. My numbers are way up and my RAC is still increasing as the last machine comes up to speed. These four are going to run 24/7 until they are spent.

It would be interesting to know how much is contributed in 'silent' contributions by those purchasing, operating and maintaining processing hardware. It might be a valuable funding tool to be able to state that volunteers support SETI so strongly that they have been willing to donate $X amount of personal resources to the project. Though, I suppose that could be estimated based upon average $ per gigaflop.
