Any of the "big brand" compact camera in that price range will do a good job. Being a DSLR man I'm a bit out of touch with today's models, but I have a couple of old Sony compacts that do a fair job when I don't want to lug £ks worth of camera with me.

thank you Rob and thank you Admiral Gloval for that advice,
I'll do a little shopping around and talk to the sales person,
tell them how much I have spend,
and tell them what kind of Photos I want to take.

Best Wishes,
Byron.

Almost every picture I have posted here was taken with a Canon Ixus 265 HS and I can say it is one of the best cameras I have used. Certainly at the price I paid, £98, a couple of years back.

It is small enough that I have it in a pouch on my belt at all times and as you can see it takes pretty good pictures.

Fantastic photos, Gnu. At one time I wanted to have my bedroom walls painted to look like the walls of an ancient castle like that one. I'd still like to do that, but I'm not as enthusiastic as I once was.

We're spending a few days over on the Isle of Man...these are a few photos close to Peel Castle...must have taken 250 photos over the course of an hour...o:)

.....

Love these pictures Gnu.

They are very Northen. Viseral. Hard. Effervescent.

In the past we would have used a red or green filter with film to emphasise weather and contrast.

What did you do to make these images so punchy?

My boat may be a tad long to get through to the Lancaster. I've got to check the exact permitted dimensions for the Douglass and Ribble Link....

Message 1895909 - Posted: 18 Oct 2017, 9:10:37 UTC

Here are a couple of pictures from my walk last week, it was unfortunately grey and overcast, but I walked the Thames Path easterly this time from London Bridge to Canary Wharf, about 5 miles.

This is HMS Belfast and Tower Bridge.

This is a lot further on, the tower with the pointed roof is what many think of as "Canary Wharf" and is actually One Canada Square, which was the tallest building in the UK until the Shard was built.

I also came across this, just a little way off the Thames Path.

I actually had no idea what it was, I looked it up and it is the western portal of the Limehouse Link Tunnel

And yes that is an artwork, called "Restless Dream" by Zadok Ben-David, apparently the eastern port has and untitled abstract by Nigel Hall.

Well it seems that even at my age you can learn something new!

This week in the park, the staff have been busy trying to collect al the leaves, so I took a few pictures before they were all gone.

Here the red, fading to green at the edges, caugfht my eye.

Also having had a little play with Gnu's "Snapspeed" app, I did this to last weeks picture of the Shard.
