RIP George. As a kid I hung around his body shop some. My dad and George were freinds when they were in High School. We would go to drag races as part of the pit crew for Dunn & Reath which George had painted. He tried to sell me his old chevy truck with a Vet engine painted in his sigiture Metallic Candy Apple Red. My dad did not go for it. He was a very a very creative and passionate car guy. I have some good memories. |

R.I.P. I was one of 100 kids and 100 escorts(Parents or older siblings) in the LA Memorial Coliseum who got to see Robin the boy wonder drive the Batmobile from the tunnel at one corner of the field to the 50yd line where everyone was seated at, it was a contest, Dad did ask if He should bring His camera or not, so I have no idea if He took photos that day or not, originally Batman was supposed to be there, but being an actor Adam West was a no show, He was afraid of being type cast, Robin was played by Burt Ward who was there in costume and answering questions from the crowd. This wasn't taped, this was done live, when I get the slides back from My Sister in law, I'm going to look and see if Dad did make an entry on the Kodachrome slide boxes for this event. Dad was a car nut, so He might have taken pics, I hope He did. I could have Walmart or somewhere make the slide box into a DVD for play on TV. It was a contest and one had to write a paragraph about the show or something and send the letter and the back of the cereal box in to enter the contest, I won, the slides are My Dads legacy, but they pale in comparison to My Dad, He's My hero, He was a Medic w/a rank of Corporal in WWII Europe in the 368th Medical(attached to the US 3rd Army, General Patton commanding), He was recommended for 2 commendations for His paperwork on Allied and POW Patients, He was in N.Africa, Sicily, Anzio(The Hospital at Anzio was shelled at one point by the infamous Hermann Göring Division of the Waffen SS), N.France and Occupied Germany until He was sent home in Oct 1946, He'd enlisted in early 1942, He was not a draftee. RIP Mr George Barris. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |
