Message 1827080 - Posted: 28 Oct 2016, 1:53:47 UTC - in response to Message 1827065.

What worries me is the way we allow ourselves to get so divided :/ we do it in the UK too :( We all have to find a way to live with each other, not in vaunted office space and mansions, but at street level afterwards, or we're the ones that get hurt.

I finally saw a yard sign today, and it was for Clinton, and it was in an upper-middleclass neighborhood that traditionally is rather Democratic in it's voting patterns. I'm sure if I drove around I could find some Clinton signs in lower-income neighborhoods, and some Trump signs too, in any neighborhood in town, but there is definitely division amongst us. Louisville, Kentucky is a mid-sized city(about a million people) and it has pockets of wealth in several neighborhoods, but some of those neighborhoods are geographically on the opposite side of town. Likewise, there are some lower-income neighborhoods that are completely separate from each other. The interesting thing to me, though, is the low and high income neighborhoods on one part of town both tend to lean Democratic, and the low and high income neighborhoods on the other part of town tend to lean Republican. It's as if the Democrats stick together, and the Republicans do too, even in how they populate the city, regardless of demographics.

*ahem to moderators everywhere* I'm sorry for making you read all that, people...

+1

I see we're in agreement there ;)

If I'd realised you were speaking of zealots, Clyde, I may not have said all that I have :) What I might have said though (and we'll never know for sure now) was that sometimes, the way you utilise some words, can make it seem that if there is an ideologue being expressed on these boards, it's the one being professed from your centre. I am sorry :( For me, they detract from the message more often than they build on it. I may be completely wrong of course, and I admit I'm a fine one to talk, because I've added nothing to the thread topic at all.

But I am listening in the wings and I'm finding much to listen to. I just hope I haven't insulted you as often or as much as I've felt somewhat insulted by your posts at times ;) It certainly wasn't my intention, as I'm sure it's not been yours :)

oh...and did we say we like humans too? Well we do :)

Signs have been very absent in this election cycle. Normally my neighborhood is plastered with signs for every spot on the ballot, even judges. This time next to nothing. Perhaps the extreme nastiness of the orange mop has people unwilling to express their position as they fear a reaction. Or perhaps the election is so far into the bag none of the candidates are putting out signs? But as there are to hot spots on the down ticket, I don't think so. Both for seats that haven't been open for several cycles. I don't get it.

Now outside my hood on the commercial drags there are signs for the down the ticket races. Even the usual dirty tricks of putting your sign covering the opponents sign. But no matter where I've traveled in the last couple weeks have I seen a trump sign or bumper sticker. I've seen more Bernie bumper stickers than Clinton bumper stickers and signs put together. Just weird.

I'm also ready to see Trump win in a land slide like Renaldo Magnus did in 1980 even though all the polls back then said he was losing by double digits also.

Somebody else made that claim recently, shame history does not support it.

I believe that is an altered state of reality, which might explain the conclusions reached from that bogus starting position.

bumper sticker

The only bumper sticker on my car is for Pink Floyd, and I don't think he's going to be elected anytime soon.

And in most cases that bogus starting point can only be attributed to one candidate and the main supporters of that candidate.

Trump has made much of election fraud and voter registration. So why is it the US is about the only country that requires voter registration?

Pew research in 2012 said 24 million of the US population of voting age was not registered.

I do see that Oregon has gone over to an automatic entitlement to vote system.

It's a shame many of you in here believe in revisionist history.

Hitler started with rewriting text books. Today's modern version of that is rewriting the google searches, supported by the corrupt press.

Did not realize text books were written in beer halls in early 20th century Germany. Thanks for setting me straight on that.

Question of The Day:

Why are the Democrats continuing something that failed in the past?

Seems more are enjoying altered states of reality.

Question of The Day:

Why are the Democrats continuing something that failed in the past?

Because it was a Republican failure? and they don't think they'll get it wrong too?

Maybe...?

It is a bit risky when you look at some of the well-trodden wrong paths from history, so I do see your point.

*gaze sombrely at Americans everywhere* Do you know what? I'm going to trust you all to elect the candidate that does the least damage to yourselves, and hopefully the rest of us too :)

See! I found no problems reading and engaging with that at all :) Thank you, Clyde! This on the other hand...

I just point out the ignorance (or worse) of their beliefs

I need more than just the label to be convinced someone's put their finger on some deep truth, though :\ Could I have missed where you expanded on that? It's a shame I've not found an example of the former because without it

Smile at their responses

comes across as premature jubilation ;/ which can prove quite disappointing...

edit: I've just seen an answer you probably much prefer! :) Hello Jaundiced eye!

oh...and did we say we like humans too? Well we do :)

Just they are wrong.

Ah, the superiority comes through as we all knew it had to. Because you are superior enough to make a judgement and find them wanting! Right/wrong are moral superiority judgements. Look in the mirror Clyde, you are them.
