Vic - did you know that a fair proportion of folks on statins suffer from various unpleasant side effects like nausea, acid reflux, stomach pains. I recall that you have mentioned such troubles in the recent past and wonder if there is a connection, and these can be made worse if one has a hiatus hernia - have a word with your doctor and see if he will swap you to different "version" - I'm not sure if your doctor does phone consultations, but this is one of those things that can be sorted out quite easily if he does.

Filtering a poster on these forums does not prevent that person from reading or commenting on your posts. It stops YOU from seeing their posts.

Message 1979717 - Posted: 10 Feb 2019, 15:04:34 UTC - in response to Message 1979639.

What I don't use cards for is rent(paper check only), internet(Debit), car insurance(deducted automatically from My account), and to a temporary extent food, I'll have Food Stamps of about $140-$170 a month starting somewhere between June and September and then I can put away the cards, Amazon is no longer being used though Amazon is not paid off yet, then the fun will begin paying the cards down, first with the secured card, then back to Amazon, then the smallest unpaid card, until all are zero balance, then Paypal will be dealt with.
That's a promising start. Create a spreadsheet. Have a separate column for each category of expenditure. Under each title put the balance in. In Column A, list every you buy, i.e. food, fuel, insurance etc.

Pretty soon, once you start that is, you will be able to see where, if any, cutbacks (savings) can be made. If there is any, don't spend the money saved on anything that is not required at that time, but use it to pay off your balances.

Trust me, it works - seeing $00.00 is not just a relief.

25, 36, 47 won't mean anything to you, but to me it is £30.00. Picking that up this morning, £15 was put on Electricity & £15 was put on Gas. Not really needed as such but it serves a good purpose with several levels to choose from.
1: No need to put the full amount in next month
2: Have it build up for the cold months as less is used during the warm months.

Either way, getting caught short won't happen.

Here's the "special sauce"
Once you've achieved it - Don't stop.
Create a new spreadsheet as your cards won't be on it. Put normal expenditures on it with "probably" 2 more headings Car & Savings & continue with your monthly budgets. Even after 1 year, the difference seen...

One thing to remember is that, living where Vic does there is likely to be two peaks in energy bills, one in the winter for heating, and one in the summer when it gets unbearably hot and he runs his a/c. That said the same process applies, and don't be fooled by "low energy" months when you can reasonably expect a few high ones to come very soon.

Well the nausea I've not had, I have had some pains in the gut, but that was gas(keep a bathroom handy), acid reflux is easy to avoid, just drink more DHMO or consume less salty foods(Chili Cheese Fritos anyone?) and drink more soda or DHMO before bedtime that works for Me.

Doctor Phone consults, nope, they're too busy, getting an office worker is the best one can hope for out here in the Wilderness, Yermo is not Civilization according to someone that I know of, but what do I know on this?

I like a variety of crisps, my favourite being Smoky Bacon.
I'm not paying between .60 - 80p per pack, so buy a box of 40 every month for £4.00 (.10p per pack).

Another addition to my "special sauce" is coinage. 1, 2, 5 & 20p coins get put in a demijohn. Just before Xmas every year they get bagged. Last year it totalled £115 & some change.

Message 1979783 - Posted: 10 Feb 2019, 22:19:50 UTC

In 2015 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. (I'm all better now, so no worries.)

After diagnosis I was faced with having to tell various friends and family members that I would be undergoing some life-altering medical intervention for a very serious medical condition.

Some well-meaning people felt that I would benefit from hearing about all the life-style changes I should have made to have averted my diagnosis in the first place. Did I appreciate their input? I did not.

Some well-meaning people felt that I would benefit from hearing about all the life-style changes that I should make right now to maximize my potential for a positive treatment outcome. Did I appreciate their input? I did not.

Some well-meaning people decided that I would benefit from hearing about all the life-style changes that I should make in the future to reduce my chances of cancer recurrence down the road. Did I appreciate their input? I did not.

When one is undergoing a life-altering event, one reaches out to others for care, concern, understanding and support.

It is difficult to know how to respond to a friend in crisis.

Most people did their best to react to my news in ways that were kind, but frankly only one friend had the perfect response. When I told this friend that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer her only response was, "That sucks. That really sucks." That was all that I really wanted to hear because I had little to no control over the past, the present or the future.

Sometimes all we really want is some space to vent and a touch of human kindness. Please???

True, & getting the feeling you're not alone also helps. Glad to hear you're still the CRL. :-)

I can relate to what you posted. I have been a close family friend to a lovely family here & have watched them grow up. 2 of the family members are female. For some years, 1 of the girls were not in the best of health. I was shocked several years ago to find that the younger girl was diagnosed with cancer. I gave no platitudes. However, as I have done many times in the years since, either woman only has to call & ask if I can accompany them to the hospital.
My answer every time is: "What time will you be picking me up?"

Some times It has been half a day, others the whole day. When asked why I still do so, my answer: Real friends are hard to find today. I've become such a friend to the family that they no longer regard me as a friend but a family member.

All I can say about my posts is that I hope Vic becomes careful of his wording, as in the past he stated we should try walking in his shoes. As I have shown, my shoes were much worse than his & had much further to walk.

A debt of close to £10,000 had built up as regardless of income or not, one's every day expenditures still have to be met. Thankfully it now stands at £00.00.
Hopefully, with what I posted, Vic can start making improvements to his situation.

As well as to at least try to differentiate between Constructive & Destructive criticism.

No body helps Vic because he has burned those bridges down years ago. The gas furnace farce as Chris pointed out being the big one that soured most folks.

Vic you still running 30 foot extension cords in your house to keep some things running?

One thing Ive learned is save. Stash cash away for when you need it. Dont buy stupid things you dont need and or cant use. ( like all the ebay computer crap you buy) Ive yet to see one of your water cooled video card computers come on line after how many years? Thats all old kit now anyway.
But its your life so continue to stay your course, You know better than all of us anyway.

This is just My opinion.

Another shutdown may be in the offing, the last time this happened it hurt local businesses, it could put several businesses in Barstow CA out of business, the one where My car is at is behind in their bills since the last time and are slowly recovering, another manufactured crisis could put them under, people(civvies) in this area work at the local military bases, people who aren't getting paid don't spend money on car repairs or much of anything, a recession might be on the horizon and 2020 is too, there might be hell to pay then.

Picking up on Vic's last post....
I know in a few weeks time it's the dreaded US mad get your tax forms in time. But what will happen if the shutdown is still in full flight then, who will say "You've not sent your tax form in you naughty boy" if they are all on enforced leave, or have phoned in sick? (And if a whole office phones in sick who answers the phones??)

The IRS was still working through the last (partial) shutdown. So I assume they would still be working again (without pay). That is IF there is another shutdown. Deadline the end of this week. Friday Feb 15th.

Message 1980043 - Posted: 12 Feb 2019, 11:07:17 UTC - in response to Message 1980021.

Democrats and Republicans have reached an agreement in principle over border security to fund the US government and avert another partial shutdown.

It was unlikely that America would risk another government shutdown, even their politicians aren't that stupid, and would put the country before a little garage in the middle of nowhere.

Oh Boy! I knew I shouldn't have spoke of the devil, as we all know, he's bound to appear.

Shortly after making the post above, I wanted a cup of tea but realised I ran out of milk, so went & got some. On the way in with the milk, checked the mailbox. I've got mail. Since then been on the phone to the relevant Dept & people concerned - I wasted my breath, so 1st thing tomorrow, lawyer time. With what I've already posted, one will see why I hate bureaucrats with a vengeance!

Back in April 2014 I cleared not just the 2 debts owed to family but others that had built up. 2 weeks after the debts were cleared, I received the Council Tax bill for 2014-15. It showed the amount due for that year together with a small outstanding balance. That balance was the legal costs that the council had to pay to obtain a liability order against me. Understood, no problem. That was cleared along with that years payments. Hoorah! Another bill out of the way!

Until this afternoon. For those who want proof of the following, I'll provide if asked once I redact it as there is too much identifiable info on it. However, I'll post the 1st 2 lines.
On 18.06.13 Peterborough Magistrates Court granted a liability Order against you for£342.04. The current outstanding under the order is £82.04.
The letter was dated 11.02.19 & received today. IIRC, the bill for 2013-14 was for £274.04.

My bank at the time put all debit card payments down as Visa purchases. So unless I was taught wrongly at school, this...

from £342.04 = -£67.04 (there is no outstanding amount on that year).
What has come to light recently is that many people here having paid their bill annually, still got summoned to appear in court. Magistrates rightly threw the cases out.

So Vic, get that spreadsheet up & running. Also, any payments you make online, print them out & also have it e-mailed to you. Having proof is a godsend.
Edited for spelling with the earlier edit to reduce image size, it was too large.

Well that's all good and all, but everything here is paid up, the only worry that I have at the moment only concerns: taking a 33 gallon sized bag of trash to the nearest dumpster, food, mail, and the engine to My car, beyond that nothing. I bought 6 loaves, now I have a little over 3 left and 15 days left in this month until March roars in.

Paid up? I hope that is not the minimum amount required per month? If so, you will never get clear. Okay, I got slapped in the teeth in 2005 with another in 2007. Rolled with the punches. The punch received on 1 Nov 2011 I couldn't roll with. The next 4 years were tough. I was practically inches away from the exit of the tunnel when I got hit. Since those strokes & being discharged from hospital, I made sure no one within system will ever get a hold on me again, in fact, on 9 Jan 2019, used their own laws against them & won. Cost one bureaucrat their job. TS.

I may be an unwashed oink in the street, but I am aware of most laws that affect me.

As I've shown in my last post, someone somewhere has made a serious mistake - I will not accept their oft used excuse - Computer error my ass.

All I'm saying, & others have also said it, if your creditors say enough is enough, you're screwed.

While I'm waiting for the 1st to get here, I did get some work done on 3 PCs with some parts that I already had on hand I'm only stopped cause of a lack of sixteen 6-32 x 28mm machine screws, I have some that are shorter, but NZXT says that's what they used, so I have to wait. At least the rear fan is in place. The new prescribed Naproxen pain pills @ 500mg each(2 per day) are helping a lot more.

I installed the 16GB(2x8GB) Patriot 1866MHz DDR3 ram in this motherboard for safe keeping and to keep it from getting lost, they're the 2 Black Dimms on either side of an E5-1650 v2 22nm 3.50GHz cpu. Oh and the 360mm Coolgate radiator is being taken out of the case asap and put back in the box it came from along with the screws it came with.

And I finally did some work on this motherboard, I fixed a velcro pad with some Super Glue under the ROG light/led(between the top pci-e slot and the cpu, it has white printing on it), I changed the cpu from an i7 940 2.93GHz 4 core cpu(130w) to a Xeon X5675 3.06GHz 6core cpu(95w), I cleaned up the i7 940 and used some Noctua NT-H1 thermal compound on the X5675.
For a larger pic @ 1920*1440, click on the pic. It's a beautiful motherboard, soon it goes in a HAF XB case, which can't hold a 360mm radiator unless modded and that is only if the overall length of the 360 is less than the inside of the case, I think a 280mm rad and 2 fans would do, EK makes one with 6-32 screws as does XSPC and I think Coolgate, but that is not for right now, I'm only working with what I have here for the moment. And yes it's heavier than your average motherboard and there's no distilled water in it yet, gak.
