And another thing, you'd think this was a no brainer and maybe it is, ;) , the 6/6 or 6/8 or 8/8 ports in the top of a video card are for pci-e power cables, a video card if it has them won't work without the proper pci-e cables plugged in, yet some will plug in a video card into a slot, hook up a video cable, turn the power on, then nothing happens and pronounce said card DEAD. It all depends on the way the power management on the GPU is configured - done "correctly" the card should not power-up correctly without the correct PCI-E connectors plugged in. There have been various states of "not work correctly" over the years,: a) some will detect and identify, but as soon as asked to do anything other than that will fail; b) others will cause the operating system to report a problem with a card; c) and others will simply do nothing. d) others try to work and cause some other component to fail. The first is the most annoying, the second the most helpful, and I'll let you work out what the last two are..... 2-GTX1070 1920 cuda cores 2- GTX-970 1664 cuda cores 2-GTX1060 1280 cuda cores Which would be the better bang for the buck if one didn't want to spend a lot? I have a 970 now, it has more cores than a 1060 and yet has less than a 1070. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

A single larger card uses less power, which you seem to be so concerned with. So a 1070Ti, or those 2060's are sure looking good for pricing. I have a 2070 ASUS Blower which I'm impressed with for performance and cooling, and pretty cheap. They have a 2060 as well. |

I typed in a 2, so it's 2 of a kind or a pair, not a single card. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

There was a significant step in performance between the 9xx and 10xx GPUs. The 1060 is slightly ahead of the 970 - take a look at Shaggie's "GPU Flops theory vs reality" thread where he posts comparative graphs for the vast majority GPUs based on the actual performance out in the wilds of SETI rather than under artificial bench testing when it comes to credit per hour, and a long way ahead in terms of credit per kWHour. Ok I found the thread you mentioned Here. If I am reading the chart right, if I'm wrong I'm ok with that, the Nexus of the two sides is a GTX 1070 card or at least it seems to be. Vic, take a look at my two i5 rigs (both dual 1060's setups) and my 3GB 1060's on average under Win7 use 60% of their TDP (around 65-75W of their 120W max), but telling you the draw from the wall is pointless as I'm running on a more efficient 230-240V supply (so you'll never get that close on 110-120V anyway). Though I'll let you know soon enough (hopefully in 4-6wks time) what they'll do when I switch my 2500K over to Linux and the special sauce. ;-) Cheers. |

Vic - you are reading it correctly. However, one thing that is not clear from those graphs is the "kWhr/clock hr" - which is the actual cost of running any particular GPU. To get there (and so to the actual running cost) a bit of arithmetic is needed, not hard but a bit of a chore if looking at a number of different GPUs... Well right now I don't have enough money for a 1070 at the moment, but I'm working on that, by Feb 2nd I should have enough for one 1070 card and maybe some 1866MHz ram. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Sorry, but this is not something I need to justify to anyone here, nor should I. I am able to do something, but patience is required. Good night, it's My bedtime. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Vic, you are not being asked to justify anything - another SETIzen is just commenting on his recent financial activities. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I have a 2070 ASUS Blower which I'm impressed with for performance and cooling, and pretty cheap. It runs at what temp? At what fan speed? Is your 2070 in the 1 slot where it has less air to blow or in what slot? Asking you all this questions since I'm looking for a pair of 2070 for my host but still not 2070 hybrids are available. Maybe blower type could be a solution instead if they runs really cold. I know there are kits for the 2070 to convert in hybrid but that requires to disassembly the GPU and that i not like to do, special on a new card. |

I'm up again, why? My right arm hurts and My stomach is bothering Me(too much salt), plus I needed to get up. I just took some pills for the pain, at least My throat is not feeling dry and raspy for the moment. I do know I've got to work on My walk in closet, to put some boxes back on the shelf, so I can put two pieces of bedroom furniture back in there, then I'd have access to the floor vent, no I can't get someone to help with that, since when I do that My right shoulder joint is going to be in real pain again. I already can't lift a lot with My right arm. I managed to get 2.5 hours of sleep. But hey the gas furnace is on or was. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

GPU hybrids are cards that have had the fans replaced with an pump and radiator set up. It's self contained and does not need to be a free standing pump and reservoir. Unlike a water cooling which places a plate over the entire card, the hybrid only covers the chip, VRMs and modsets. I'll see if I can pull a pic. |

Right now I'm bidding on a PNY 1070 card that has "FREE" shipping, yes I'm aware of what goes on with this type of shipping, I've been on ebay since June 2002 and have a 100% rating there, I probably won't win this one since the average is about $200 for a PNY 1070 blower I found in a search and I'm only at $68.00 out of $98.49, later I will have more, I just have to be patient there are more out there, though getting this one would be nice. Meanwhile I swapped two 970 video cards(an Nvidia and a Palit) between two PCs and connected the water pump for the 6 core 1650v2 cpu to the Asus Rampage IV Black motherboard. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I'm making progress, the main 24pin power cable and the 6/8pin pci-e cables for the video card are hooked up, also the power and data cable for the SSD is hooked up, I need to get a few cables, an extension for the 8pin cpu cable, a mini DP to Display Port adapter cable, 1-3 3pin fan extension cables, every case is different, the psu is older and the case and motherboard are newer, so one cable isn't quite long enough, but I'm making progress, the back is a mess resembling spaghetti, which is a good reason for a modular power supply, with this psu you hide what you aren't currently using. I still need to install a fan hub and the 3 BitFenix red 140mm fans, that's next. The Back, resembles spaghetti The front. A Xeon 1650 v2 cpu PC w/a Palit 970 blower. Well I'm without a car for the moment, 1st the serpentine belt came off in the rain in Victorville CA, a good Samaritan reattached the serpentine belt for free, He would not accept any payment, then about 30 miles from home the timing belt snapped on the fwy, the engine and drivetrain are Mazda designed, the rest is Ford, I had a tow truck come up and I paid $60 to tow the car on a flatbed to the Shop in Barstow, the car is locked and armed, nothing is inside beyond cat hair, I am trying to get a small loan from the park for $60 to offset the towing, the Shop is going to have to fix My car, I'd had just finished off paying a $400.77 bill to replace an alternator and then the Serpentine belt had to be replaced since the shop thought the old Serpentine belt would do, I can't even go shopping for food right now and yes I'm out, more repairs, hopefully not a new engine or car as I can't make payments. But I'm home safe and sound. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

The timing belt broke, is the motor a zero clearance design? If so you are in deep financial shit. |
