Barstow has a Starbucks, and a lot of sunshine, good place to stop on the way to Lost Wages That's all a gallon of gasoline away from Me, there is a Jack in the Box, Peggy Sue's Diner and another diner nearby to Me(2.5 miles vs 12.5 miles) that sells good pizza at the local motel @ Ghost Town Rd, yeah We have a real Ghost Town with camping and restaurants, not to mention a mine ride and gold panning, Calico is a county owned park, not bad for a Ghost Town. Ok I checked both Mac Tools and Snap On, both stop at T8 and both do not make Security tools in either a T5 or a T6 size, so both brands are useless here. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

On or sometime after the 1st of July, I'm going to have an electrician replace one or two troublesome electrical outlets, since one of these outlets has been giving Me a little trouble recently, one outlet has been losing power, today was the 3rd time, if I were in better shape I'd just replace the outlet Myself, I had a hard enough time getting the outlet to work, last time I had to bend the prongs in on a device that's plugged into the outlet, this time I removed a plug and was about to remove the 2nd and the power came back, so I'm having 1 or 2 outlets replaced with new ones, these outlets have probably been used for nearly 28 years, so I'd guess they are both worn out or have bad connections, either way I'm fixing one or maybe two of them, one is not being used and isn't really important, the other has My TV and Internet access and is the one that has gone out of service 3 times. One plug I think I can move, the other, not a chance, the cord for the a/c is too short. I'm still waiting for July to roll around so that I can order some ram for the new PC and buy some Torx T5 and T6 Security screwdrivers, until then there is not much to say, since I can't add a block to the Nvidia card until I have the tools I need, plus I've also got a 580 card on hold, since it needs a cpu water cooling radiator, that will be an NZXT X31 and so far that is set for sometime in Jan 2016, so far at least. zoom I know you are short on money ... why pay a electrician $75/hr to replace a $3 plug? just make sure the power is off, plug a light into it and make sure it goes off when you turn the breaker off. It's just 3 wires, way easier than putting a motherboard in. you can do it in 10 minutes, just draw a picture of where the different color wires go. |

zoom I know you are short on money ... why pay a electrician $75/hr to replace a $3 plug? Why? Well lets see getting up and down is hard on My joints, specifically My knee joints, which have hurt since I was 12yrs old when I'm on My knees, I'm about 390lbs, 6'1" tall and I can't see as well as I used to. Turning a breaker off is still trivial, everything else is more difficult now, than in the past. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Ok time for an update. I just ordered a pair of used Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866MHz 8GB Dimms, these are in RED, like the ones below: The next ones I order will be in Black, which are the same speed and such(10-11-10-30), when I'm not sure, yet. Next month I'm buying a motherboard, either an Asus Rampage IV Extreme or an EVGA X79 Dark, after that I'm going to mainly pay down My cards and credit line, before I fly apart at the seems. An Asus Rampage IV Extreme(untested, seller has no cpu, motherboard does light up). An EVGA X79 DARK, either would do. I also at the same time I ordered the ram, I also ordered 2 Lamps for My TV, I only need to install 1, but having a spare lamp is not a bad idea. I do have 2 torx security screwdrivers that I need to buy to work on the GTX590 cards with, but I have to wait until July 3rd for that, then asap they will be on their way here. @ Brent Norman: Turns out I didn't need an electrician for the outlet, seems what I did to the surge protectors prongs, fixed the problem. Though I will in October have to have an electrician out here to replace two 15A breakers for the gas heater(they send power to the blower, no power, no heat) cause the hold down tabs are broken and these are not ones that I can buy off the shelf, heck I don't even know the name of the breakers anymore, it's a 28yr old mobile home, that's a minor fixer and sometimes a pain in the ass. If this PC gets any slower, I may have to take a chance and salvage parts from the Asus P7P55D Pro and install them in the EVGA P55 FTW PC, since I'm not sure if the G.Skill 1333 ram will work in the EVGA or not. About the only place that I know this ram will work at is still not ready, the Asus Rampage III Extreme, since I have a card to get repaired and that PC needs black tubing, cable clamps and a few other things so I can clean the blocks out of junk from koolance and from a previous owner or two, since 2 blocks are new and 2 are used. I'm not relishing the idea of doing this, since it's most likely hours of work for Me, that could turn out to be fruitless, since I may not have the right ram, oh the ram should work, I just don't know for sure. Any EVGA P55 FTW users here? Besides Me? The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Holy Cow! I'm an electrician. It is not a hobby! I will give sound advice though. I installed dual 20amp circuits for my electronics (dedicated). Please feel free to ask questions, especially where an older mobile home is concerned. |

Mines not that old, it's a 1987 Fleetwood Westfield, the manufacturer went bankrupt in 2009(almost 3 years after I bought the place and moved it here, it was in a park that was closing in N. Las Vegas NV), I have two 20A 115v circuits, both use 12ga wire and was installed by an electrician, I'm not in shape to do that anymore, nor will I ever be, trust Me on this. I do know what to do of course, I just don't know what the brand or type of breaker is, the gas heater uses a one or two 15A breakers, both will I was told, need replacement. Getting any replacement parts through the current Fleetwood is impossible. I'll eventually need 3 or 4 20A 115v circuits installed in the living room of this 810sqft singlewide. Just because Fleetwood used them doent mean you cant find any to match. [/quote] Old James |

That's the problem, there aren't any in Barstow CA, though there are electrical contractors and 1 or 2 wholesale places, at least I think there are 1 or 2, not that I've seen one out here, plus there is the Home Depot, not that I have any confidence in that place for this. I'm going to have someone else do the work in Oct or Nov, since I don't feel like I'm up to that, bills permitting. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Ok I went outside, oh da Horror! ;) I took some pics of the box, it's a Slater S-I-R or 5-I-R, the pic is blurry on this, since to get the shot I had to hold open the lid with one hand and shoot with the other. Oh and the Breaker is a Murray 20A breaker in Black(Bottom right 1st pic and 3rd pics). Note: I doubt this is the original front to the box, since someone had done some rehab before I bought the place. Misc text on this pic. And the breakers, this pic has been flipped. I also got the Corsair ram(2x8GB) in, among other things today, sorry no pics of that this second.. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Well the model numbers on the breakers on the left clearly show what you have/need. and yea it looks like and old box ... and I can't think of why the hell they put a pin between 2 different breakers on the right side. |

Well the model numbers on the breakers on the left clearly show what you have/need. I think the place was rewired as well as replumbed, albeit in a hurry, so it could be sold, the park it was in, in N.Las Vegas NV was being sold in late 2006(this didn't stay in Vegas), the cover seems to be from an old indoor panel(notice the CU/AL? That would be I think from before 1978), yet the panel is on the outside of My mobile home, under an exterior cover. I had some work done once to remove a faulty 240v breaker and to install the two 20A 120v black breakers on the left and some 12/2 wiring, at the time the two on the lower right were intact of course. In fact this site here(The Mobile Home Doctor), says CU/AL wiring wasn't used after 1971. So the front of the panel is not original to My mobile home, since mine was made in 1987, some 16 years later. Heck I'm not sure if all 4 screw holes line up, since there is only 1 screw holding the front cover on the box, which might be original or it might not be. yea if your box and wiring is that old, I would suggest and electrician to look at it. You can bump up some (depending on the number breaks in wire) that fall into the electrical code region. you have extra breaker slots, but no idea how easy it is to get a new wire from there to here, if the current wires won't support it. wish I was there to see inside panel and look around, but that's all I can say right now. |
