Still waiting for the Euro class action lawsuit. This may be as good as it gets.  It remains to be seen whether this is simply political bluster. |

I obviously don't get something. Why not use Linux? My answer was to convert my Intel PC into a Hackintosh. GO MAC!!!!! :-) Now, I can dual boot between El Capitan and Windows 7. :-) Intel Quad Core Extreme QX9650 at 3 GHz. Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Rev 1.6 with BIOS Upgrade FD. 16 GB DDR2 800 MHz. (4 x 4 GB sticks.) Two EVGA GTX-750TI SC GPUs with 2 GB GDDR5 each. DVD Drive. Two WD Black 1 TB Drives. (One Win 7 Pro x64. One MAC OS X El Capitan 10.11.4.) 610 Watt PSU. CoolerMaster Hyper212 EVO. Full Tower Case. One WD 1 TB Laptop Drive in External USB Case. (MAC OS X Time Machine drive.) System Name: Prometheus/Andromeda. (Win 7 = Prometheus, MAC OS = Andromeda.) BOINC installed on both OSes. So, this computer is listed twice in my Computer List. My second computer is an AMD A6-6400K APU with EVGA GTX-760. WD 250 GB Hard Drive. Win XP Pro x64. System Name: Exeter. Third, (occasional), cruncher is my parents' HP Skylake Desktop system. System Name: Farragut. (System on Win 10 Pro x64.) My hope now is that my newly modified Andromeda will raise my RAC with the two 750's. We'll see. I'm still debating on Upgrading Prometheus to Win 10 Pro; but, again, since creating Andromeda I really don't see the need to Upgrade to Win 10 there. TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... I obviously don't get something. Why not use Linux? Not that you'll be all that interested, but I have a slightly older version of that same mobo, namely the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L Rev 1.0. (Host 8049524) Can't tell for sure if it's the BIOS (Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Rev 1.6 (Bios F9,latest) or the processor (Xeon E5450), but the system would not upgrade to Win 10 x64, due to lack of CMPXCHG128 support. Runs fine on Win 7 x64. Go figure .... Not sure what the deal was on the old BIOS, as it gave an Apple logo when booting, before I nuked it. Of course, the system was running Ubuntu 14 when I got it. Later, ... |

Actually, at last check when I was on the Hackintosh site, I was told that the REAL latest BIOS for the UD3P Rev 1.6 was FE. However; when I went to Gigabyte to check this, my FD Version was the latest available. (This was like 3 Mos. ago when I checked.) So, at some point, Gigabyte pulled out the FE BIOS Upgrade. I never saw ANYTHING about F9... (But, there again, Gigabyte could have pulled that off the Upgrade list, too...) The ONLY reason you'd see an Apple logo on boot is if there was MAC OS on the hard drive. So, whoever had the system before you must have made a Hackintosh out of it, like I have done here. The Apple logo would NOT have been attributed in any way to the BIOS... These older Gigabyte boards seem pretty versatile and solid. I'm quite impressed with my Dual Boot system. :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

Actually, the BIOS is pretty specific to the sub-model of the motherboard. In example, I had initially downloaded the F11 BIOS, which fails to load. Turns out, that's specific to the UD3LR. Went back, realized it and downloaded the F9, specific only to the UD3L. Re the apple screen, that's a negative. It was the BIOS splash screen, not associated with any disk drives, and delivered at POST. I know this as I migrated from Ubuntu to Win by moving a small SSD drive I had off another machine, replacing the HDD containing Ubuntu. When I reflashed the BIOS to F9, the Apple splash screen was replaced with the Gigabyte Tech splash screen you've no doubt seen, unless you disabled it in BIOS as I later did. So no, it was definitely a BIOS thing. Wish I had captured the rev number, but don't feel like reloading it just to see, and the splash screens have to be disabled to read the rev level in any event (lousy design, AMD). May take a peek at the backup I made to floppy with a Hex editor and see if I can see it there. Usually near the front of the BIN. Later, Jim ... |

>Â Â Microsoft removes policies from Windows 10 Pro Excerpts:
"The changes take away functionality that was previously a part of the Windows 10 Pro edition." ... precisely how does this improve the user experience?
To accomplish this, wouldn't you replace it with *nix, or BSD.
After July 29, Win10 will no longer be free, but you will still get a complementary straitjacket. |

Doubt they will win against M$ but maybe there is that 0.01% chance! Florida men sue Microsoft over 'coerced' upgrades to Windows 10 Three Florida men have filed a lawsuit in a Florida federal court against Microsoft, charging that the company "coerced" them into upgrading to Windows 10 and that the "unintentional" upgrades damaged their PCs, resulting in lost time and money. |

Doubt they will win against M$ but maybe there is that 0.01% chance! Greetings, Can Window$ 10 be installed without accepting the EULA? If so, they may have a leg to stand on. If not, then no Class Action. Peace! :) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. From what I have been reading here on this thread for quite a while now, it relentlessly goes in and back doors the update without you having to accept anything, especially if you have automatic updates turned on. So, I would say that they have at least a shot of this turning into a class action, and as much as I dislike lawyers, (especially the slimy ones who usually push the BS, here - you get a $10 coupon that you will never ever use and we get Millions in legal fees), I hope that this one goes thru and M$ loses their a$$ on it. Not because I think I personally would benefit monetarily from it, but because it will hopefully have a chilling effect on any other large, multi-national, multi-billion $ computer/software/etc. type companies considering anything even remotely similar. |

Unfortunately it would become a textbook case and all the little "errors" M$ did would be pointed out so that your client won't do them. I can see next anniversary's update now ... I have decided to stay with what I have now. If that becomes an unworkable option in the future....hello linux. I'm tired of dancing through MS's hoops and I don't like supporting them anyway. I wonder what the percentages are here at Seti though. Those that took the plunge and those who did not. |

Laptop running out of memory? Forgive me if I am teaching you to suck eggs but when I got some s/h laptops to increase my crunching power, the first thing I did was increase the RAM to the max where the average cost was about £25 per RAM chip. HTH George |
