Windows 10 adoption hits 300 million as Microsoft warns the free upgrade will end soon If you haven't upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 by July 29, expect to pay more than $100 to do so later. “If you’ve already upgraded to Windows 10 –- thank you. If you haven’t upgraded yet –- we hope you’ll consider upgrading today,†Yusuf Mehdi, the corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group, said in a blog post. But these upgrades—accepted or not—have also been disruptive. Most recently, a newscast was interrupted with an upgrade notification, as was a live Twitch stream. Erik Flom was playing Counter-Strike in front of a reported 120,000 people when his computer spontaneously launched the upgrade process. Expect more of these sorts of stories as July nears. |

"Microsoft removes store-blocking from Windows 10 Pro" http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36226372 I think this will be one more reason for even businesses to turn off updates completely. If M$ did this now, what will they do next so why take a chance. The cure could be worse than the disease. There is only the chance of someone taking advantage of a vulnerability while things like this are almost a certainty if updates are left on. |

The Microsoft Security Intelligence Report (isn't that a contradictio in terminis, Microsoft, Security and Intelligence in one sentence?) writes that between July 2015 and December 2015 malware infections increased a lot on Windows computers. Hmmm, wonder how they got that data. |

Not having problems with Win 10 and being overall quite happy with it I have not posted in this thread much. However after the "One Drive" email, I also got this.
Now I have used Live Mail as my mail programme for may years, I have collected over the years 6 email accounts and Live mail allows me to easily see them in an easy to use format, the new "mail" program in Win 8/10 is, well a kiddies toy in comparison. So It does seem that they want everyone to toe their line. I have already saved all my files for one drive and deleted it from my PC. Next I will be changing all places I use my "Hotmail" address to Gmail. Anyone recommend a good e-mail program? |

Anyone recommend a good e-mail program? I've been using Mozilla's Thunderbird as my e-mail client since at least 2007 and it serves my needs quite well. |

4th'd, no issues here using Thunderbird with outlook. Yes but what may happen after the "update" on 30th June? Now I have tried T-Bird before and cannot remember the reason but I didn't like it at all, oh well, time to try again. |

Now I have tried T-Bird before and cannot remember the reason but I didn't like it at all, oh well, time to try again. When I went from Visa to Win7 I gave Thunderbird a go because that's when MS dropped the Windows Mail client. Unfortunately I couldn't get all of my existing emails & contacts from Windows Mail to Thunderbird without an massive amount of screwing around (the import function just didn't work properly), and even then I couldn't get some things across. So that's when I ended up going with Windows Live mail as it only took a few clicks to transfer emails, contacts & account info over. Hopefully things have improved since then. Grant Darwin NT |

Avoid Windows 7 KB 3133977 on ASUS motherboards. May prevent your system from booting. Was an Optional but recently made Recommended though the issue was known. If it boots to a red "Secure Boot Violation" screen, ASUS has posted a solution. (MS page now links to this as well... at one point their "solution" was to install Windows 10.) |

I switched to Hushmail. Going from a Hushmail account to another, e-Mail is automatically encrypted. You can "choose" to encrypt e-Mail to outside clients, (Yahoo, GMail, etc..), but you must give the contact a password to then view the e-Mail online. For $49 a year I get 10 GB of storage, and got it to work with my iPhone. Exporting contacts from my GMail to Hushmail was EASY!!! I had no trouble getting contacts across. Hushmail is Canadian based. So, the NSA WILL have to get a Warrant to obtain e-Mail from my address. Also, once your Hushmail Account is setup, you can create Alias e-Mail Addresses so that you pass those out to 3rd parties that you DON'T necessarily trust to have your primary e-Mail Address. Mail sent to an Alias still goes into the primary account's Inbox; but, the sender doesn't get to see the primary e-Mail address - unless you choose to give it to that 3rd party. Spam seems to be minimal... I've been using Hushmail for a few years now. Now my GMail Account is my backup e-Mail, and I've stopped using Yahoo altogether. OH, and by passing out the Alias address, that CANNOT be hacked!!! There's no login password associated with the Alias address. Only the primary e-Mail address uses the login "password" which actually is a mandated Passphrase! Hushmail is AWESOME!!! TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

...and again a bunch of updates, most seem harmless/useful. Only the BIG update for IE11 concerns me, because it bundles a lot of other things with it... :? Aloha, Uli |
