Due to recent problems we are doing a deep cleaning of one of our larger databases. Update: though we are still working on the database, we were able to start workunit generation again over the weekend. -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. Due to recent problems we are doing a deep cleaning of one of our larger databases. This is unfortunately progressing slower than expected, and keeping us from generating new work. We might be in this state until next week. Would it make sense to schedule a periodic "deep cleaning" on a planned interval? Perhaps once every 3 or 6 months? To keep the dbs less grumpy until a better solution can be determined. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

Well that answers my question,I had no running tasks, when sometimes I would have 2.Does anyone know how much data is left to process?Im sure its some unearthly amount. |

My heating unit, I mean computer, is getting cold without units to run. :-) Thanks for the update. |

The visual Data Activity screen shows WU going out at 29/sec. I'm confused. I'm not getting any units. Cricket shows low data rates. |

The visual Data Activity screen shows WU going out at 29/sec. I'm confused. I just looked, and the rates were 9.2/sec. But the caption says this is a visualization of 5 minutes of data transfer captured sometime in the past 24 hours. It ain't real-time info, just a pretty picture. Seti@home isn't dead, merely resting between acts, long live S@H ;-) Seti is merely pining for the fjords or waiting for the cart Large Man: You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do? "Dead" Man: I feel happy. I feel happy. [The collecter paces for an idea, then whacks the body with his club, solving the problem] Large Man: Ah, thank you very much. Dead Collector: Not at all. See you on Thursday. Large Man: Right. |

Well that answers my question,I had no running tasks, when sometimes I would have 2.Does anyone know how much data is left to process?Im sure its some unearthly amount. Actually, it's a near-infinite amount, limited only by the time that Aracibo turns on one specific receiver (which Seti piggy-backs on) and how many "Tapes" (used to be, now disk drives...) are available at Aracibo... In the process of debugging are processes for "tapes" from Greenbank and (further away from production...) from the LOFAR array . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

RE the new visualization: (and not meaning to hijack the thread...) Couldn't the time spent programming this have been better spent on other problems currently infesting both Seti and Beta? (like parts of the website that don't work: the "Science Status" page, for exmple...) Just askin'... (runs for cover...) . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

I believe the science status page was disabled because of the database workload it causes. The date of the last update still shows the exact time of a major database crash, so they are probably being cautious about it. |
