MS says I have to reinstall the OS, which last I looked means a reformat and I lose everything, last time I swapped motherboards, I only needed to reactivate, this is ridiculous. All cause they say it's a different motherboard. I did get the key for the OS, I wrote that down on paper, I just need a few cables from this pc, the hdd, dvd drive(broken) and the memory sticks from this pc and I'd be ready. You don't loose everything. When my old system mobo died. I just moved the hard drives and reinstalled windows. If it is the same OS. Then go into the windows.old folder and make new shortcuts with the path starting with \windows.old\ Then find out how many programs survived. I did some research, found the MS Windows Diagnostic tool, downloaded it, ran it and the tool said I had a retail installation, not OEM, as the 3 MS mental midgets wrongly assumed, you can find the links and a discussion on this topic Here(Windows 7: Activation after hardware changes). So instead of a reinstall, I might at worst need to do a reactivation, now before I do this I'm going to buy a cheap ethernet card, since that Mac address is part of the WPA scheme, though if needed I can spoof the old Mac onto the new Mac and the PC will be none the wiser, though if you do this or any change, disconnect the ethernet cable, once the card is fully installed driver wise.
