I was right. It failed. But it never give an error message. It just undid everything it did and ended up in the same place it started. Harumph.

So I renamed the ap_signal table, created a new ap_signal table with the proper structure to avoid the problem, and now I'm copying everything into the new table. Early estimates are that it will finish on Thursday. But early estimates are never right. These things seem to slow down as they run.

If you're looking for another use to which to put your computer, some of our crunchers encouraged me to create a SETI@home fundraising campaign at Bitcoin Utopia. It allows you to use BOINC to generate donations in cryptocurrencies like bitcoin SETI@home.

FWIW, unless a cruncher has ASIC mining hardware or really, really cheap electricity, it appears to me that using CPUs/GPUs for Bitcoin Utopia would benefit the project far less than simply saving the electricity and donating some or all of that savings directly to S@h.

Greetings,

Uh, Eric. I clicked on the link provided and was awarded with a page telling me this:

I am not sure why this happened. If you could clear this up for me I would gladly go there. :)

You may want to post that in this thread, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=76131, in Number Crunching Siran. ;-)

Cheers.

here is the home page

http://www.bitcoinutopia.net/bitcoinutopia/

when you get there do this

This project uses BOINC. If you're already running BOINC, select Add Project. If not, download BOINC.

When prompted, enter
http://www.bitcoinutopia.net/bitcoinutopia/

If you're running a command-line version of BOINC, create an account first.

EDIT : only do the cudaminer and cpuminer not shore about the sgminer Don't do any ASIC or any others unless you have the hardware and it's #5 Campaign units you would want to do for seti #6 Campaign is not list and is finished i believe
EDIT EDIT : you set theses in the bitcion utopia preferances on the web site as you would set what type of units you want seti to do

Have been mining a little bit but it doesn't pay 1.2 mill credits per WU... I'm wondering if it would be a good idea getting one of those ASIC mining machine things and how difficult it is getting it running. Checking Youtube vids it doesn't seem that hard...

You might be interested in this post from Bitcoin Utopia.

Average profitability for SHA-256 mining according to www.multipool.us has now dropped to 0.00002 BTC/GH/day => 60 Billion Credits ~ 1 BTC
(1.2 Millon divided by 0.00002 = 60 Billion)

With the recent drop of BTC vs. USD (it's now at 380 USD/BTC, has been at 440 24 hours ago) that's 155 Million Credits ~ 1 USD
(60 billion divided by 380 = 155 Million)

It's a couple months old, but I don't imagine it's that far off the current "credits to dollars" ratio, since Bitcoin seems to be down to ~$371/BTC at the moment. The Peercoin they seem to be mining now might be somewhat of an improvement. Still, you're probably looking at needing quite a few million credits in order to generate the equivalent of $1 for the project.

Edit: Well, that 155 Million figure might be low. I see the top 2 producers for Campaign 5, STE\/E [BlackOpsTeam] and Bryan, combined already have 11,932,800,000 credits which, divided by 155M should be about $77 (less the 10% BU cut, I suppose), just for those 2, but the project total looks to be less than $75 as I write this.

Thanks Jeff , but you are missing the point there are normally about 120,ooo active user doing seti , if like my machine witch had a rac of only about 20,000 doing seti and will now have a Rac off about 290,000 it would not take long to get the 2.5 bit coins seti is asking for

34 billion a day could be generated and would only take 1 week or less to raise the 2.5 bit coins .

Seeing as the project has no work . Shore you could save money and then send that in but , will people talk the talk but wont walk the walk and actually send what they save in ? , so instead just mine bit coins while we wait for work i say

Sheesh! Even I can do better, and I only lived in der Schweiz for 13 years:
"Sorry that I post in German but my English is only good enough for short sentences and not long ones -- so translate this with Google or Bing. Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving from Deutschland. Jetz auf Deutsch; When will the rebuild finally be finished?"

... and now I'm copying everything into the new table. Early estimates are that it will finish on Thursday.

I don't have any experience with database software so don't know if the following is of any help to speed-up the 'things' (and you probably know it all):

PDF: Performance Tuning Tips for IBM Informix Dynamic Server
http://informix-zone.com/files/whitepapers/perf-tuning-tips.pdf

Monitoring Informix Dynamic Server for Higher Performance
http://www.informix.com.ua/articles/monitor/monitor.htm

IBM Informix Dynamic Server Performance Guide

I used this search:

False virus flag

http://www.bitcoinutopia.net/bitcoinutopia/forum_thread.php?id=235&postid=835#835

I just added the BOINC data directory to AVG Free exceptions directory and voila

I see it as if I can get even $1 thru this project to SETI@home/BOINC I have given, and if several thousand of us do this while the main servers are down...well...there ya go, it's just electricity ;)
