Well, weight loss has been slow these past two weeks... Yet, another 0.5 lb loss this past week. Still, a loss is a loss. :-)

Total Weight Lost: 41 lbs.

Current Weight: 251 lbs.

Goal Weight: 140 lbs.

Only 111 lbs. to go... ;-) (Slowly, over the next year to year and a half.)

Message 1781823 - Posted: 23 Apr 2016, 23:23:46 UTC

This whole thread get a bit hard to understand at times for a man who weight 150 plus or minus ten for life.
And it is not a work of achievement for me.
I guess I was blessed by God in that department.
But, I generally see anybody who is what I would call grossly overweight and willing to make the effort rather than just whining about it, as somebody willing to better their lives.

I applaud here all who are trying, because most of us on the other side of the fence KNOW how much better they shall feel, and the medical benefits they shall reap if they can ever achieve their goals.

On the street, it makes me sick to my stomach to see somebody struggling to carry around that much excess weight./
Sorry, but it really does, because I know that it IS possible for them to change that if they really wish to.

The difference here is.....

A...I do not have to look at them.
And
B...I have a chance to hear their mindset on the issue and realize how difficult it is for some of them to change even a few pounds on the way down.

Hell, I can drop 2 or 3 pounds of water weight on a good or bad weekend just pissing it down the toilet, so I have to wonder how significant it is for somebody weighing 2 to or 3 hundred to claim a 'big labowsky' over a pound.

Mark, weight gain and inability to lose it can be not only a physical challenge, but also a psychological one. If you relate it to alcohol dependence, you should be able to understand it.

OH, I think I understand the psych part of it all too well.
I was not dissing any of our overweight team members.
One has to wonder however, how they allowed themselves to get that out of shape in the first place, because that part of it I do not understand, as it has never been a problem for me.
Of course, some can say the same about me and MY problems with alcohol, because some cannot understand how I can down a litre or two of whiskey in a weekand and still be alive to talk about it come Monday to go to work sober.
The mathematical end of it is .15 of BAC per hour, so I have to quit early enough on a Sunday to get sober enough to go to work on Monday.

My handheld breathlyzer tops out at .199 BAC, so I never really know beyond that how drunk I get.
It's usually the mod notices that remind me.

I think you were.

Alcohol and food dependence are just two of many ways our brains try to cope with problems. Some hide their struggles better than others, but I respect those who come out in this thread to announce how they're doing with weight loss.

I believe that our teammates have both overcome the first step in dealing with their problem, in so much as they have stepped forward and discussed it with the community at large. As have I.

The first step in solving a problem is..............
Admitting that you have one.
And I know I sure as hell do.

+1000 to Gordon!

Most of my weight gained over the decades has been from routine and recurring use of Prednisone to control my severe Asthma. It has ALWAYS been difficult for me to keep weight off. After High School, my weight skyrocketed over the years to where it was 6 Mos. ago, at its highest point of 297. Since starting Atkins, 6 Mos. ago, I have lost a Grand Total of 46 lbs. (Five of which I'm NOT counting in this Thread because of personal reasons.) I think I've made EXCELLENT progress, and I won't let snide comments deter me from my goal.

I did not, ever, make any snide comments, what the f is going on here?
I have throughout this thread, tried to be supportive.
I have tried not to ever be dismissive or negative about your 'work' in getting better.........why would you think I was being 'snide' about it?
I wish you and Vic both the best in your goals to better yourselves.
I was simply pointing out my own struggles with my own addiction and wondering how these things happen from youth.
I was not born an alcoholic, and you were not born grossly obesese......
How did we get there was all I was asking.

Oh, yes. And I am NOT always an abusive drunk. Sometimes a very jolly one. So please do not place too many labels on me, my friend.

I think you are a nice person most of the time, sober or not, but alcohol brings out a bad, reckless side in you. If it doesn't physically kill you first, it will cause you to lose all your friends.

It's too early to tell for sure, but I did lose some weight, 8 lbs since I last reported in :).

So I'm down to 414 lbs, gasp!!

My notes do help Me, a lot, so does switching to 60 calorie a slice bread, I think, give Me another month and I might know for sure, I record My weight there.

And that bread is not the cheap stuff($0.99ea), not at $3.59 a loaf...

Someone call the cops, some weight was stolen... ;)

Not all of them, ever.
Some are able to see through my bad moments.
And I have no long term it appears.
I seem to have some struggle going on in my brain that has nothing to do with alcohol use or addiction.
This is not YOUR problem, but it may cut my life short at any moment, I am told.
So, if I wish to imbibe for the remaining lifespan I have, who are YOU to accuse me of wrongdoing????
