Nearly 200 earthquakes shake San Ramon

An earthquake swarm continues to shake the San Ramon Valley with almost 200 temblors rippling through the region through Monday afternoon, when a 2.8 quake struck at 4:02 p.m followed by a 3.5 quake, the largest in the series, and a second 2.8 quake, both at 4:21.

The 4:21 quakes were widely felt in the East Bay.

Are there any dry and very large reservoirs nearby TL?

That could cause the Earth to rebound some, in and around Lake Mead, when Hoover Dam was filling up the lake, there was earthquake activity, just a thought of course.

NASA predicts earthquake? Video with link.

NASA Gives 99-Percent Probability Of 5.0 Earthquake In LA

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — If scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena are correct, a moderately-sized earthquake is expected within the next two-and-a-half years.

JPL experts predict a possible 5.0 magnitude quake in Los Angeles, but say it very well could be stronger. JPL geophysicist Dr. Andrea Donnellan, along with seven other scientists, has been using radar and GPS to measure Southern California’s chances for a sizable earthquake, and has made a sobering hypothesis about another big one.

JPL / NASA / Caltech vs. Caltech Seismology which one do we place more faith in? Caltech or Caltech? Very interesting.

Makes one wonder about the JPL / NASA / Caltech climate warming studies ...... and scientific method.

If it has to do with space trust NASA
if it has to do with the geology, trust USGS
If it has to do iwth football, don't trust CalTech.

It's really that simple.

By the way, a 5.0 in the LA area within 2.5 years is in my mind pretty run of the mill. They are not sticking there heads out much.

Yeah, My place can withstand a 5.0. I think most can, though some that are made of Adobe, probably can't, the last time a quake hit near the Mission San Gabriel, there was damage. Unreinforced masonry is not something I'd want to be in or near.

I remember that. Also something about a magma dome building under the lake. Or was that the Mammoth/Long Valley Caldera area?
Either place are on the east side of the Sierras, not really a threat to the Big Valley.

I could be wrong on the lake but I do know it was a very busy place for a while. Trees were being killed off too because the ground was too warm.

According to the USGS it's CO2 that is killing the trees at Mammoth Mountain.. 100 acres worth in fact.

Nonetheless one of these days it will blow it's top when we least expect it.

I have a thermo plant just 13 miles away and we get small quakes everyday it seems like. about 1.5 to 4.0

Not in San Ramon/Danville. Lafayette, (along Highway 24), has the only reservoir that I know of that is in driving distance. (680 North: San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek - 24 West: Lafayette.) Probably 20-25 Min with traffic.
