Yesterday we had around a 4, (maybe 3.8), close to Danville, CA. Didn't really do much; vibrated the floor, and one wall downstairs. Lasted about 10 seconds. TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

The USGS says the quake in Southwestern Michigan was a 4.2, according to the article Here Donald. I was half way to Springfield and moving at about 78 MPH, so I didn't feel it. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Hard to think that a 4.1 damaged a bridge near Napa enough they have to take it down and rebuild it. Never felt a thing here. |

Hard to think that a 4.1 damaged a bridge near Napa enough they have to take it down and rebuild it. Never felt a thing here. The ground something is built on varies all over the place, that's why they do soil testing all over a new route or for a structure, to customize the foundation of whatever is being built to match local conditions. After the 6.1 which I did feel and only 35 miles away, one would think it would have shown up then but guess not. Cheers everybody Life is short so don't sip Beer speaks, people mumble |

Some soils amplify the shaking and some soils will cause whatever is built there without a proper foundation to sink, that's called liquefaction. Separating earthquake fact from fiction in 'San Andreas' LOS ANGELES (AP) — The San Andreas Fault awakens, unleashing back-to-back jolts that leave a trail of misery from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Skyscrapers crumble. Fires erupt. The letters of the Hollywood sign topple. Tsunami waves swamp the Golden Gate Bridge. Hollywood's favorite geologic bad guy is back in "San Andreas" — a fantastical look at one of the world's real seismic threats. The San Andreas has long been considered one of the most dangerous earthquake faults because of its length. At nearly 800 miles long, it cuts through California like a scar and is responsible for some of the largest shakers in state history. More |

I think the New Madrin fault holds the record between 1811 and 1812 , somthing like 1800 after shocks and even today they get some fair size ones but nothing like then. Alaska's in 1964 was a wing dinger though. To have all 800 miles to give way all at once? I really dought it. I seen the Hollywood sign get knocked over in many movies in the past, one would think they could nail it up better. :)) Cheers everybody Life is short so don't sip Beer speaks, people mumble |

Alaska's in 1964 was a wing dinger though. It's designed with quick release pins. Just so that it can be knocked down and put back up eazily. |
