Why did they label it Thunderbird 2? T2 wasn't an airship. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Why did they label it Thunderbird 2? T2 wasn't an airship. No, but T2 was about that size and shape, wasn't it? Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Size, hard to say. Shape, tentatively i suppose. Colour, definitely wrong. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Size, hard to say. Shape, tentatively i suppose. Yeah, well, I prefer shiny to battleship (or spaceship) grey. 'Course all the boats I rode were painted dull black.... Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

It's probably shiny to reflect sunlight for temperature control issues. Or maybe they wanted to avoid the extra weight of a paint. An airship is similar to a spaceship in that they'd want to save as much weight as they can. And it is kind of ugly to look at for those of us used to airships being cigar shaped but again, form follows function. |

Also remember that they use Helium now not hydrogen. That makes a big difference in lift. [/quote] Old James |

The return of the Dirigibles... People have had articles about that off and on for a while now, it's nice to see something more real than an article. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Apparently, this is called, 'progress'! Be back in a sec....someone calling themselves Ming the Merciless, wants me to sell him my laser mouse... Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

you'll never come out of it alive I will live on for evermore in the hearts and minds of mine, and in the lives those who needed me in theirs. My genes will fly between the stars. |

IMHO - either a hopeless dreamer out of touch with reality, or an out and out fraud. Airships will never be succesful until they match the infrastructure costs of a helicopter (which just needs a bit of sorta flat land) or the rough weather capability of fixed wing aircraft (fixed wing aircraft routinely fly into hurricanes on purpose to take weather measurements, airships routinely get wrecked in stiff breezes). I see nothing in this design that addresses either issue. |

I see nothing in this design that addresses either issue. The aircraft that fly into hurricanes aren't passenger liners, nor are they cargo carriers, the market he's going for here. C5As (and oil tankers) avoid hurricanes. The article says it can land anywhere there's room for it, land or water, so it's almost as useful as a helicopter; can a chopper lift 66 or 250 tonnes? The article says it can land anywhere I wonder how much the insurance would be if you stated that you were going to fly in to storms on a regular basis with passengers in one of those things. |

That's a Blimp Chris, not a Dirigible/Airship which is different. Airship The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |
