And I know one cop who will say to you "Tut, tut, you really shouldn't have done that, now go home and don't do it again"

You need to bear in mind that Doctors and hospitals need to be forewarned to expect a higher number of casualties, and old and confused people are particularly vulnerable. People like us can use common sense, it may not be so easy for others. Even as it is we are going to see avoidable deaths through the heat. And I give fair written warning, that If I see a car with a dog locked in it nd the windows shut I will happily smash the windows open and call the police and the RSPCA, and I will go to court with a private prosecution.

Old and confused people wont necessarily know or be able to react to these
keep you self cool, drink more fluids episodes coming via the media.
If doctors and nurses and hospital come to that 'need to be forewarned' about
the likely increase in people requiring medical care during a hot spell then
it does not say much about our overall health service....does it, for they
should be aware of this as a mater of fact of their jobs.

Can we not just have a hot summer, for a change, as against the lousy ones
we've had over the past seven years without people running around and telling
us how to survive it. For a laugh, I listened to one commentator on the radio
suggesting that if the temperature rose above 35 Degs C the government should
instruct us not to go to work.....this is planet Earth isn't it???
Once you start nannying people then this is the way some people then tend to
start thinking, "it might be too dangerous to go to work" and the way some
of our government ministers think then this not going to work, when it's hot,
might be a good vote catcher so lets put it in our manifesto.

umpteenth day in a row where the temperature in my back garden has been sitting at over 32C....

(Office is a nice cool 30C just now, with all the doors and windows open and a breeze blowing the blinds everywhere)

Old and confused people wont necessarily know or be able to react to these keep you self cool, drink more fluids episodes coming via the media.

Then it is up to people to keep an eye out for vulnerable neighbours and friends and give them help and good advice.

If doctors and nurses and hospital come to that 'need to be forewarned' about the likely increase in people requiring medical care during a hot spell then it does not say much about our overall health service....does it, for they should be aware of this as a mater of fact of their jobs.

Nicholas old son, don't be so melodramatic. Doctors and nurses are not weather forecasters, they are medical people trained to deal with the results of a heat wave. They need to be advised when the weather is likely to increase their patient intake so they can be prepared for it. In fact many hospitals have already put pre-prepared contingency plans into operation as a result of the official warnings.

For a laugh, I listened to one commentator on the radio suggesting that if the temperature rose above 35 Degs C the government should instruct us not to go to work....

I'm glad you think its funny. Research shows that at that temperature heatstrokes can happen and productivity drops significantly.

Once you start nannying people

Any responsible government should be advising the population upon sensible precautions to take when there is an officially declared heatwave. This reduces deaths and the load upon hospitals and GP's.

Now go and put a sunhat on, sit in the shade, and have a cool drink.

Reduced to condescending, now I'm sure you can do better than this, Chris....
...please don't let the side down now.
