If I understand ; with the new version you do not need to install lunatics now. Is that right? Do have set to 'NNT' to empty the cache before updating boinc. bj WØBJH AMATEUR RADIO ![]() |

As per the sticky thread on upgrading from 7.0.28 to 7.0.64 you need to run down your cache prior to upgrading BOINC, to avoid errors, yes. BOINC upgrades are completely independent of Lunatics installs - you don't have to do anything in that regard. BOINC updates keep the data structure intact, they just change the BOINC program, you pick up crunching where you left off. In this case with no tasks, as you ran down your cache first. NB that partains only to the GPU tasks, you don't need to run down the CPU tasks - just make sure you have no GPU tasks left. Edit: to solely run down GPU tasks while keeping CPU up, don't use NNT but set 'don't use GPU' on the website settings. Don't forget to unset after the upgrade. BOINC provides the framework - contact with the project. Lunatics provide the optimised applications to run instead of the native Berkeley ones. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |

Yes, as .56 is a development version with still a couple of (big) bugs in there. |

Is going from 7.0.31 to 7.0.64 considered and update or upgrade? What I'm asking is, do I need to finish off the GPU work before I install it? </Tazz> |

Is going from 7.0.31 to 7.0.64 considered and update or upgrade? from what I read in the older messages in this section , I would say YES ! http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=71491&postid=1360702 ![]() |

Is going from 7.0.31 to 7.0.64 considered and update or upgrade? I dont think the BOINC manager upgrade will affect any current processes as long as the project folder is kept the same. an downgrade from 7.0.XX to a 6.XX.XX version would kill any work onboard. upgrades from one 7.0XX to another shouldnt affect your work onboard ![]() In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Is going from 7.0.31 to 7.0.64 considered and update or upgrade? If you run anonymous platform GPU and do not specify a flops value in your app_info.xml file yourself, then yes, you need to set No New Tasks and finish & report work before updating. 7.0.33 is the version that has the change with the flops value used for GPU tasks increased by a factor of 10. Since .33 is later than your .31, you'll be affected if you try it on work presently in cache. |

i have a 680 crunching 3 wu at a time and an intel graphics onboard that is currently not doing anything. have set to NNT and waiting for everthing to finish before upgrading. my question is when i upgrade and the new boinc sees the intel graphics and starts to use it will it try to crunch 3 wu at a time on it. |

Thanks for that. I didn't know if the change in the flops value was what kicked off the .3x series or if it was just added when it was ready for mainstream. </Tazz> |

I don't know of any onboard graphics that boinc can use , maybe one of the Super new boards or something like that. Neither of my PC's can use onboard graphics for crunching. ![]() |

Intel has implemented OpenCL support for the HD Graphics 4000 or HD Graphics 2500 GPU portion of Ivy Bridge processors. See the Open beta for OpenCL AstroPulse for Intel GPUs started thread. The GPU portion of recent AMD APUs also has OpenCL support. Joe |

I had an ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard that had on board GeForce 8200 and I was able to crunch wu's on it. The running time was longer than the Phenom 9650 CPU I had in it but it still worked. If I'm not mistaken, CUDA support started on the 8xxx GeForce series. So if you have onboard GeForce 8xxx or later it *should* work. I don't think that there are any apps compiled for Intel GPUs. Edit: Didn't know about the OpenCL on Intel. I haven't been keeping up on their stuff. </Tazz> |

Think the only application at SETI for Intel gpu's is the Astropulse beta that Raistmer is now testing. See the first few posts in this thread to see if your processor will work with the beta - some do, some don't. It's a manual install, so see the first post in that thread for info.
