I only go to the supermarket after I've eaten something... We also have an Indian shop here, 100 meters from my door. He also has a lot of stuff but it's quite expensive. I go there when I don't have time to go to the supermarket. rOZZ Music Pictures |

If the UK didn't have an army of Asian corner shops open form 7am to 11pm I think the country would cease t function ...... No, don't have one of those, my nearest is a co-op. We manage just fine. |

If the UK didn't have an army of Asian corner shops open form 7am to 11pm I think the country would cease t function ...... Incredible. Don't tell me you don't have a milkman with an electric van either. Or an ice cream van, making this horrible music at every stop... UK cornershops are often only slightly more expensive than the large supermarket chains. And the UK is the only place I know where you get milk in 1, 2, 4 and 6 pint cartons. (well plastic bottles). A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |

No milkman or ice-cream vans, have to rely on the co-op, or if desperate for milk wander up the hill to the local farm, does eggs as well. And you haven't looked at prices in my local co-op, some things are over twice the price in a nearby town. But the special offers can sometimes be worth while. And it also sells milk in 1/2 pint plastic bottles. |

It's the convenience we're paying for. The shop is less than a minutes walk from my front door, the nearest supermarket is over a mile away, a long way to walk to save a few pennies. Else i'd need to catch a bus, or drive, which would quickly offset any savings. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. ![]() |

It's the convenience we're paying for. Here the nearest supermarket is 12.5 miles away and the nearest store is very expensive, more so than going 12.5 miles and buying from the supermarket. :| I'm lucky that I live at an Oasis in the Desert. ;) The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's ![]() |

My nearest store happens to be a supermarket, but a rather expensive one. It's only a few blocks away, certainly within walking distance, but I always drive because I always buy too much to carry home. Sometimes I drive to other stores if I feel I can get enough of what I want (especially meat, milk and eggs; I rarely buy bread) cheaper enough to pay for the gas -- and just because they have things I want that this one doesn't. It's definitely a stereotype here that the small shops and convenience stores are run by minorities, usually Asian (witness the shop in The Simpsons). And yes, they're more expensive. Gas stations also have convenience stores (or vice versa) and they're more expensive too, but it's, as said already, a convenience thing. Actually, I buy a lot (too much) snack food and individual bottles of soda at gas stations when I'm out driving around all day, because I stop there to use the euphemism. The same cause is also responsible for most of my fast food consumption. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

I'm too far for delivery, some chains are experimenting in that area of commerce, but not in My area. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's ![]() |

I called for a pizza yesterday and I had to order for a minimum of 15 euro's, otherwise they couldn't deliver. Wasn't like that in the town I used to live... I hear ya Julie, here the buyer delivers the pizza, at least outside of Barstow or some other city, in this area one has to drive to get anything that isn't UPSable... Like going to the Doc or to buy food or simply to see the relatives or something else like going to the vet(w/Grace), some don't like Me owning a car, a house, being online or even voting... But I digress... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's ![]() |

Vic that post makes no sense at all ..... Ya mean not having pizza be deliverable or the other things? Both happen to be true, some of it's distance(the bottom line) and some of it's just plain uncaring stupidity... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's ![]() |
