Well done Bernie! And of course the Coronation Scot.

Hey, the Brits invented the railways :-))) The USA and others might have the Horsepower, we always had the class and style withoput being brash..

And the Golden Arrow Boat Trains from London to Southampton with Pullman cars.

If you're going to do it, then at least have a bit of panache about it.

Here's a famous US Loco, the Santa Fe Blue Goose, a 4-6-4 Hudson type... This outside of some models is all that is left now of this steam locomotive.

Winning on a Thursday evening.
Not much online time these past two days.
Looking forward to a relatively quiet Easter weekend.

Re: Mallard... officially, it holds the record. Most experts believe it likely that that speed was often exceeded, but never observed.

Re: style and class. A matter of opinion. I'm afraid most American railfans regard anything not designed and built on this continent as ugly. I try to be a bit more open-minded, but I find most British steam to be odd at best.

But then, I don't like most American efforts at streamlining steam engines either, especially retrofits of existing ones. The Santa Fe engine posted here and the New York Central streamlined Hudson are good examples of things I find hideous. Engines where the streamlining was designed in aren't so bad, examples being the aforementioned Southern Pacific GS-4 class and Norfolk & Western Class J.

Changing subjects rather than double-post: either it's possible for high blood glucose to trigger a histamine response, or I have a bit of a cold. A bit of ache, a bit of fever, a lot of runny nose. Still a somewhat winning day, though.

Sounds like my seasonal allergies. I take loratadine (generic Claritin) once daily year-round, and twice a day during Spring and Fall allergy season. Check with your Doctor.....

I won't let on that I'm jealous ;)

-4C but sunny here this morning. However, today I am headed off for a short break to the North of our fine country. I get to go on a road trip in my new car. Yay!

In the UK it's Easter weekend. Today is Good Friday a Bank Holiday, Sunday is Easter Sunday, and the start of British Summer Time (clocks go forward), and then we have Easter Monday another Bank Holiday.

It's also Good Friday in the US. Some banks and government offices are closed, others are not. If my school weren't on spring break this week, there would be no school today (not because it's Good Friday, which would be government honoring a religious holiday, but just because the school board decided there would be no school -- Ya got that?!). Easter Monday is not common here any more. In fact, I only first heard of it a few years ago.

[edit]
Forgot to mention, the nose is a bit better this morning. Blood sugar is surprisingly normal (which means it was all converted to fat during the night :( ). But now I have a cough and sore throat. I take Zyrtec every day year-round. For me, it works better than Claritin.
