China's turn For myself, certainly not and never have. There looks to be amazing continued history from: McLibel case The McLibel Trial McLibel is the story of two ordinary people who humiliated McDonald's in the biggest corporate PR disaster in history... McLibel (2005) documentary film The postman and gardener who took on McDonald's and won. McLibel: Longest case in English history To my mind, amazing they are still in business. Such is the power of the tobacco industry addiction right through onto an explosive deathbed exit: Man killed as e-cigarette 'explodes' A man was killed when a charging e-cigarette exploded and ignited oxygen equipment he is believed to have been using... So, to piece together that one:

Such is the power of the tobacco industry addiction right through onto an explosive deathbed exit: ahem... :) *pre-split all hairs* ...*check mirror*... *tumbleweed on legs effect achieved* :) Hello martin! :) How are you? Just wondering if you pieced the right bits together... :) Don't think he was having a fag as such, and he certainly didn't seem to be doing so whilst he was on oxygen. The fault appears to be that he was charging the device with the wrong charger. Any actual smoking he may have participated in was inhaling the result of it catching fire... you know... pre-explosion... off to sort out my hair now... :) |

Such is the power of the tobacco industry addiction right through onto an explosive deathbed exit: ... All very graphical in various ways! ;-) I will admit to some prejudice there in that hopelessly addicted deathbed smokers are known to take their last gasp whilst on oxygen to then suffer their final fag becoming an oxygen enhanced flame-thrower to burn out the last shreds of what were their throat and lungs... As a child, never could understand why my perfectly sensible grandfathers were wheezing and gasping and coughing and yet still smoked smelly fags. One managed to give up and lived another 20 years smoke-free, the other soon died. And fags and smoking is Marketed as being "The Cool Thing"!?... And the Tobbacco industry is allowed to Market such a lingering death?!! ... And fags and smoking is Marketed as being "The Cool Thing"!?... And the Tobacco industry continues yet onwards with their Marketing, FUD, and addiction and death: E-cigarette criticisms 'alarmist' say researchers ... For every million smokers who switch to e-cigarettes, more than 6,000 lives a year could be saved... ... "You have to be a bit crazy to carry on smoking conventional cigarettes when there are e-cigarettes available,"... ... "Emerging evidence from the States suggests significant numbers of non smokers are using e-cigarettes, with the potential for them to get hooked on nicotine. "We need to curb the appeal of 'e-cigarettes' to non-smokers - it would help if we stop marketing what is essentially a medicinal product as a cool or trendy fashion accessory." E-cigarettes: Debate - and confusion - is natural ... Highly-respected bodies in the UK such as the British Medical Association and Faculty of Public Health have also sounded notes of caution. But there is also a vociferous health lobby... ... After all, e-cigarettes are a relatively new phenomenon. Since 2005, the e-cigarette industry has grown from one manufacturer in China to an estimated £1.8bn global business... 'Ban E-cigarette use indoors,' says WHO The World Health Organization says there should be a ban on the use of e-cigarettes indoors and that sales to children should stop. In a report the health body says there must be no more claims that the devices can help smokers quit... The e-cigarettes phenomenon The use of e-cigarettes has surged since smoking bans came into place... I consider e-cigs and "vaping" to be still very much smoking and smelly and an assault on my nose and lungs. Can we sue all the Marketeers who are inducing people to kill themselves?... Simply scandalous! All in our only one world, Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

... As a Non-Smoker. I cannot understand this Anti-Vapor 'thinking'. Because it is not only water vapour as is claimed. There are a lot of other smelly stuff in there that smokers themselves cannot smell (due to their lack of a sense of smell as a consequence of smoking). There is also still nicotine in that vapour... There is also the 'advertising effect' and enticement being proffered. As a counter example, I'm sure anyone walking into a room with a giant maxi-sized can of air-freshener would be popular from discharging a good sized cloud of that into a room of people. After all, that is only 'water vapour and scent'... Myself, the new e-cigs are about as pleasant for everyone around as a bucket of Jay's toilet cleaning fluid. Regardless, having such e-cig foul breath puffed into your face is a direct insult. The indoor smoking ban for dirty 'cigs' and 'e-cigs' alike should stay enforced. Some 'slime' is deadly: E-cigs refills 'threat to children' ...a two-year-old girl accidentally licked some of the liquid. The infant recovered, but high doses of nicotine can be lethal. Doctors said parents should treat nicotine refills like white spirit, medicines and bleach. ... ... "Parents ideally should stop smoking, but as a minimum they should store bottles very careful like we store medicines or white spirit, we should store them away from children, this is not simply a harmless liquid." About 40mg of nicotine is thought to be a lethal dose in adults. Much smaller doses would be lethal in children... And such stuff is still being marketed to entice yet more people into a lifetime of addiction?! To my mind and personal opinion, you can't get much more slimy than this for miserably killing people for profit: UK tobacco firms protest at Labour plan to tax them more to pay for NHS Britain’s tobacco industry reacted with fury to the plan by the Labour leader, Ed Miliband, to tax British cigarette companies to pay for NHS spending, branding the move anti-business and unjust... ... Miliband told delegates at the annual party conference in Manchester that it was fair to impose additional costs on an industry that makes “soaring profits on the back of ill healthâ€. The industry argues that it contributes £12.3bn a year to the exchequer, while the costs of smoking to the NHS are estimated at between £2.7bn and £5.2bn... The numbers say it all. I think that stinks. All for whose profit and good health? And we continue to be slimed... Just listen to what is said and described here: [BBC iplayer] Michael Pollan on Food What should we eat? Jo Fidgen talks to the influential American writer Michael Pollan about what food is - and what it isn't. In an interview before an audience at the London School of Economics and Political Science he criticises the way the food industry has promoted highly-processed products ... He believes that the plethora of accompanying health claims have left us more confused than ever about what food really is, ... and its impact on our health and the environment. His solution?... For anyone who cares anything about themselves and everyone and everything around, that 30mins program is a must-listen-to... Note how he has to euphemistically use a certain phrase for his very direct descriptions... Such are the high stakes in Marketing whilst the rest of us be slimed? And we continue to be slimed... So how could we allow Marketing to get our food so wrong?... Just one small part of the history and story: Diet - Scurvy ... Vitamin C is destroyed by heat, and thus [is] not present in pasteurized and commercially processed foods. Children and teenagers who consume too many processed foods and few fresh fruits and vegetables may be getting inadequate amounts of vitamin C. (In 1914, an increased incidence of scurvy among infants was attributed to consumption of heated (pasteurized) milk and vitamin C–deficient commercially processed foods.)... Processed vs. Unprocessed Food In America, we are often so removed from the source of our food that we don't really know where it comes from, what it originally looked like, nor what has been done to it before it reaches us. In fact, we often don't even realize the variety of food that exists... ... As white flour became cheaper and more common, many people began falling ill due to diseases caused by lack of proper nutrition. Several vitamins and minerals had been removed from the flour and not replaced. (See "The Scoop on Wheat" below.) In the early 1900's, doctors were beginning take in patients with diverticular disease which they believed was caused by a low-fiber diet. This was the first time that such a disease had been noticed in the US and it coincided with the introduction of processed foods to the American diet. ... given a medical examination prior to military conscription. Forty-one percent of them turned out to be not only in poor health but unfit for service... Nine reasons to never eat processed foods again Resisting the urge to drink that soda pop or eat those chips can be tough, especially if you have grown accustomed to eating these highly addictive foods as part of your normal diet. But once you understand a little bit more about how these and other processed foods affect your mind, body, and even your soul, it becomes easier to make healthier food choices... In my view, what I see as a crass cynical response from the 'industry' adds to my belief for how slimy their product and Marketing are: Trafalgar and Parliament squares smoking ban call Smoking could be banned in Trafalgar and Parliament squares as well as the city's parks if a report by London's Health Commission is implemented... ... There should also be a ban on junk food shops near schools, it says. Smokers' group Forest labelled the call for a smoking ban "outrageous". Boris Johnson said a ban could be considered if "it would actually save lives"... ... About 1.2 million Londoners smoke, and the commission claims 67 school children take up the habit every day... ... "London should lead the way for Britain, and the mayor should lead the way for London by acting to make our public spaces smoke free," he said. Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Lord Darzi said: "We want to make sure kids are out there exercising rather than looking at adults smoking in the corner."... ... Simon Clark, director of Forest, said: "A ban on smoking in parks and squares would be outrageous. ... If you don't like the smell, walk away. ... In 2011, New York introduced a ban on smoking in Central Park and all of the city's parks and beaches. What is that?... Even the best of apologists openly admits that smoking stinks?... Just how have we allowed Marketing to go so wrong for so long?! There is nothing wrong with it, it is working perfectly. I'm sure the tobacco companies are looking at the age to get them started and how much cancer crap in their smoke and how much drugs to hook them and calculating a way to maximize the number of fags consumed over a lifetime. Yes, the marketing is working perfectly. Now stop bitching about the marketing and start bitching about the real issue, the fiduciary duty to the shareholder to maximize profits at ALL costs. |

Just how have we allowed Marketing to go so wrong for so long?! And there indeed is part of the unwholesome problem. Along with also the lack of care and responsibility of the 'shareholders' and company management/officials for the good health of others and our world. ... Business is not a Morality Play, and shouldn't be... Really? I had thought that American business had moved along from the days of plantations slaves and segregation and slave labour and 'worse'... Or is there no sense of "worse" in 'Business-with-no-morals'? Meanwhile, at least the public and consumers can drown the worst of the 'bad' or 'immoral' business practices when unhidden. Is this a good 'bad one' for example? Princes and John West: stop trashing our oceans (FADs) The shocking footage above comes from tuna fishing operations using Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs). They attract all types of marine life, including sharks, rays and turtles, which get caught in giant nets before being tossed overboard, dead or dying. Major supermarkets like Tesco, Morrisons, and Sainsburys have all banned FADs from their own-brand tuna. But John West and Princes lag behind. After heavy public campaigning in 2011, both promised to go 100% FAD-free. ... ... Send a message now to Princes and John West to tell them to stop killing sharks, turtles and rays. We won’t accept broken promises. They must keep their word and protect our oceans. Given enough of a spotlight and enough of a pariah status, even the most immoral business must change or die...
