Message 1154577 - Posted: 21 Sep 2011, 17:18:30 UTC - in response to Message 1154569.

Just got word that Eric is aware of the connection problem and it is being worked on.
I would not be surprised if there is some kind of outage today to try to sort it.

This is the kind of time... if they need to take a 3 day outtage to sort it, they should.

Well, since nothing seems to work, and it's just getting worse all the time, I'll try some reversed psychology on the servers:

Well, it's late enough to have a good beer and that's much more comfortable and not so irritating than psychology and the reverse one ;-) .
Bye the way - all computers are mad - no psychlogie will work ;-) .

By the way, although the status page shows a "Disabled" at the upload server I just could upload and report some WUs - their is hope (it never dies) :-) .

Edit: Got new WUs up to the limit too :-) :-) .

I got eight new WUs in one try, seven more on a second try and now six more. They are all shorties for my GPU but, who cares? Work is work. Maybe they will last long enough for me to get some real work! :-)

Uploads/Downloads seem to be working now. Had quite a backlog of uploads and they transferred very quickly.

Kudos to the hardworking folks at Berkeley and SAH! :-)

Lucky you... still nothing here in Switzerland. Must be true then that everything takes quite longer over here ;-)

Message 1154701 - Posted: 21 Sep 2011, 22:35:20 UTC - in response to Message 1154547.

you're not alone. ever since the advent of Astropulse, i've more or less completely stopped crunching Multibeam. i've supported the project on and off since November of 2000. but ever since the prospect of discovering more than just "little green men" (for instance pulsars, black holes, etc.) became a reality through the implementation of AP, i didn't have to think too hard about making the jump from MB to AP...

...of course there's nothing in the literature that specifically states that the MB side of the project is incapable of discovering anything other than E.T. but i would imagine non-E.T. discoveries are far more likely to be found in wideband AP signals than in narrowband MB signals.

now i may try to download some MB tasks just to see if i can snag some AP tasks along with them (as opposed to just trying to download AP tasks only)...otherwise its back to MW@H for the GPU until S@H AP tasks are flowing again...

I've been AP-only most of the time AP has existed. There have been a few times where I've either allowed whatever the server sent, or for testing purposes, went MB-only. Especially since going with optimized apps, I've been about 95% AP-only. My reasoning was at first, AP paid a little more credits/hour, but then that got equalized and then we got the Random Number Generator (creditnew) and I'm not really sure which is better anymore.

The second main reason why I like AP-only is it makes the cache smaller (not that it really matters on my puny-in-comparison crunchers. Having 20-40 tasks in a 10-day cache just seems like less to keep up with than 300+ (main cruncher would end up holding about 350 MBs with an average mix of shorties for a 10-day cache). Less overhead, smaller client_state (since that whole thing gets sent during a scheduler request) which makes it easier on the pipeline.

Also, I've read the literature about both MB and AP, and AP does seem to have a few slightly better promises for finding what we're looking for since it's kind of like a panoramic picture rather than a zoomed-in look (better example.. widescreen vs. full screen). Seeing the larger "picture" has slightly better odds of finding the proverbial needle in a haystack.

back onto panic topics though. I haven't gotten any new WUs since the batch of 9 last night. The ETA is coming down quite fast for the ones that are running, but the "ready to start" ones are not dropping much for every completed task (I know DCF goes up quick and comes down very slowly to prevent over-caching).

All of my 70-odd uploads cleared through in double-quick time, but only after I'd rebooted my home router - a known workround for networking problems on my particular home LAN.

About to embark on the downloading adventure.....

I also got 70+ uploaded and reported very quickly, to be greeted by "this computer has reached a limit..." followed by high priority mode caused by a lot of bad time estimates. I haven't had much of that until now. See in other threads that some still can't connect. But, glad they are working on all of these.

Maybe it's a little help for crunchers with connection problems, lately I changed the DNS server localy from the one my ISP provides to an open DNS server and my connection to the "World" gets much better.

Is there any chance at all of getting data from Seti, it gets boring seeing "nuttin" with great regularity. When will things move.
