Oh, bother.....
Somebody unplug the raw data storage again?
Gonna start getting a bit chilly for the kitties with nothing coming down the pipe to crunch.

Oh, well. They'll just have to cuddle up with me in the meantime.

Hmm, DNS lookup failed. Maybe try

setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu 208.68.240.16

in the hosts file?

It's still resolving to that address here.

That's a DNS problem on your end. Your DNS couldn't get the IP address for the upload server. Reboot or try switching to a free DNS server like OpenDNS.

I managed to get two of my machines mostly topped up, (6 days on one, 8 on the other), but my i7 only has about 36 hours of GPU work, and nothing on the CPU :( Oh well, better than nothing!

I wuz not quite that lucky....
Had pretty good success getting the scheduler to allocate work, but the download rates were just tragic.

'S OK...the kitties will crunch up what they got when I restart the other 5 rigs after the sun goes down and the temps cool off a bit.

If they run dry, we'll just pull the blankets up a bit towards morning.

I have AP enabled only as a last choice when no other work is available.
The dang scheduler went wacky yesterday, and started tossing them at my top rig like they were candy.
Happy to have the work, don't get me wrong. But the kitties were mostly fishing for GPU work, not APs for the CPU.

It did something similar to me about a month ago, not AP's but VHAR's, over 700 of them.

I ended up having to process some of them on my GPU's, no other way to handle that amount without some of them running out of time, still got about 100 of them but CPU can handle them.

RAC has taken a hammering, but I am not here for the points.

Using x39e and 28026 does make processing VHAR's on GPU a lot easier than it used to be.

I am using x38g....and it just LUVS VHARs....my top rig spits 'em out 4 at a time in about 2 minutes each.
Kinda hard to keep a cache full with those babies screaming through...even when all is running right at Seti....LOL.

No promises, but Eric is looking into the data splitting deadlock.

Oops my mistake, I should have said VLAR's not VHAR's.

Shorties - 6 in just over 3 minutes over here, yep its very hard to download them that fast.

He is.
And we are gonna have to accept the fact that with Matt off on his world tour, there is one less person to man the lab. Either in person or by remote hookup.

Easy way to remember...
VLAR...very low angle range...dish moving slow...crunching is slow.
VHAR...very high angle range...dish moving fast...crunching very fast.

I still can't connect thru my home DSL line, but can connect just fine thru tethering my cell phone. At least I'm still able to get some work, except the last 2 tries, no work available. Oh well. :-) I'm still here right? :-)

Glad you're still with it.
But you won't get much work at all unless Eric is able to restart the splitting processes.
So, watch the Cricket graphs and hope for the best.

Mark needs to install the OpenCL Nvidia app for Astropulse on his machines. At least they will process faster then.

I might consider it if I can't keep the caches full with standard MB work.
Right now it does not seem to make sense to me to stop the wonderful production
I am getting with the x38g app on MB.
And I think creds are about the same for the CPU whether doing MB or AP.

That's why I have not jumped into the fray on AP for NV yet.

First time my SETI-rig, is empty, only GPUGrid (GPU)and Einstein.(CPU)!
And my I7-2600, does CPDN work, 4 cores, no HT, and 4 SETI Bêta MB, 2 are
vlar units, but doesn't seem to matter, running on the EAH5870s.

Wanna know, if using HT, has ??? some advantage and to what 'price'? Four cores
would seem 'faster' 1 thread then 2, with HT on? Depending of the software, BOINC
is desinged to use/handle as many CPUs/Cores, as possible. F.i.
Also a kind aTest system, since I've now a triple BOOT, EDUBUNTU, DEBIAN and WINDOWS 7, all 64 BIT, still got to find and install BOINC in *LINUX.

Spliters are still down, Think we have to wait till monday or even tuesday, as it's
Maintenance Day then.
Well we wont die of it :)

The HT on/off discussion has been had here before. Some say yay, I say nay.
Try a search for it.
The only way to find out is to try it on a given system and closely monitor crunch times, overclockability, and temps, as it seems to be highly dependent on a given rig's capabilities in terms of CPU speed and RAM speed.

From my experience, and others may vary, HP causes very erradic GPU usage, seen on MSI Afterburner. Instead of a smooth 98% usage, I get a very jagged waveforem bouncing between 60% and 85% usage. Now for crunching Einstein, HP makes a very positive difference, as it is mainly CPU based rather than GPU. At least that's the way it was last year during the Great Outage. I drove my rig to the #3 spot with HT on. So in short, SETI - no, Einstein - yes. Your mileage may vary.
