You sound like a nervous father to be

LoL! :-) I feel rather the same way myself, except ours seems to have been born fit and healthy.

Slightly off-topic, but while I think of it: if anybody is adding ATI crunching for SETI for the first time using this installer, but already using the ATI card to crunch for another project, you may find that the recommended BOINC v6.12.26 client handles cross-project scheduling for ATI cards better than the old v6.10.58 client. You can still use an older v6.10 Manager with the new client, if you are having difficulty getting used to the new look and feel.

Just uncheck everything except astropulse if you have enough work for CPU left.

Also create or add in cc_config.xml with

<cc_config>
   <log_flags>
       <work_fetch_debug>1</work_fetch_debug>
    </log_flags>
  <options>
  </options>
</cc_config>

So you can see what your card is fetching.

Just give it some time.

I can't find two WU's with close enough Angle ranges to compare, 2.72 and 2.73 is the closest, but the average time went from 550seconds to 360 seconds and other WU's went from 2,400 seconds down to 1,050 seconds.

This is on a GT525M, I will keep watching and try to find matching WU ranges.

Otherwise, feel free to look at my tasks.

Is this a unified installer? And can I update my drivers later?

Yes, no problem if you match basic requirements.

James, your 266.58 driver is fine with this installer. I saw someone else mention the newer 275 series drivers may give you a bit of a speed increase though. I ran the 266.58 drivers with no problem but didn't give it enough time before upgrading my drivers to tell for sure if they gave any increase. I did have one down clock incident when I first upped my drivers but a reboot cured it and it has not returned so all we could do is write it off to cosmic interference. :-)

I always feel it's safest to stop BOINC crunching (especially CUDA), and prevent it from re-starting automatically on system restart, before embarking on a driver upgrade.

What will happen if one tries to run the installer without the minimum driver level installed?
Will the installer detect this and advise?
Or will the install proceed and crash things when Boinc restarts?

Ok, so far so good. It is running, and nothing bad happens, and so far no particular lag. It's pushing the GPU to 96-97%, and since I have a 120 mm fan pointing at the GPU, apart from the normal GPU fan, (it's summer, and I have a room temp of 28-30°C, so the GPU need the extra fan) the GPU temp stays at 60°C, and the GPU MEMIO temp is at 66°C.

However one thing I notice that differs from running other apps. The progress indicator isn't updating smoothly, but in jumps of 0.9 % exactly. Maybe that's by design though.

I know that a normal(if there is such an animal) AP, takes about 21-23 hours on my CPU, now it's going to be interesting to see how much faster the GPU can crunch an AP.

It depends on the blankings Sten.
Just finnish a few you will see the difference.
Dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the reply. I have allways set NNT and crunch all work before downloading an installing anything Boinc or new drivers. Id rather be safe then trash a lot of work.

No, the installer can't detect the driver, it's up to the person installing to check that they meet the requirements.

In the case of the app finding herself without a Cuda 3.2+ driver it will do CPU fallback. Depending on the relative speed of the GPU this can either work (small/slow cards) or lead to -177 errors.

Thanks....
That's why I asked....as a word of warning to others.
Should update the drivers BEFORE attempting the upgraded app install.

Mark, that was the problem Carola mentioned in her acknowledgements of us testers. It will cause the work to crash. Please ,everyone, make sure you have a driver new enough to meet the minimum requirement for this installer.

Requires minimum CUDA 3.2 capable NVidia driver: 263.06 (260.99 on notebooks)

As do I Richard, I stopped both the client and the manager before upgrading the driver. That's why it was decided it must have been cosmic rays.

We had that test as well, it will install but the wu's will fall back to CPU because of the too low driver.

I just installed V0.38(g) on my WIN XP64 +GTX480 rig, also installed 275.33 driver,
actually CUDA 4, but it works OK, no clock backs, and a lot shorties or the app is
faster then I thought ;) , some take 5 minutes.

And memory is over 1500MBytes I run 4 on the 480, don't see much speed increase.
Memory use is 1200MByte, GPU load=99%, MemCntrlLoad 40-65%.
(GPUz0.53 has 3 boxes ticked: OpenCL, CUDA and PhysX., but don't think OpenCL
will beat CUDA on an nVIDIA card?) Makes me curious, though..........

Also still running MB and AstroPulse on ATIs HD5870s.

Just installed .38(x64) on my Win7(x64), Nvidia 275.33(x64), Boinc 6.12.33(x64), 2 X GTX 480 system and so far so good running 3 tasks on each card with the overclocks. Temps on the GPU's are in the 50's on one card and 70's on the one that doesn't get as clean of air. Usage on the 2 cards is sitting in the mid to upper 90's and memory usage is 862MB.

No down clocking yet but I shall give it a while and I have shut off my ability to get new tasks and submit tasks has been hampered :).

A little of both. The app is quite a bit faster than the old V 0.32 but we did get a bunch of shorties in the last few days. Also, you may see a bunch of -9s. Don't worry about them it is the work not the app. Keep an eye on them though to make sure they validate. You may also see a bunch of inconclusive results. That is because the new app is much better and is getting a more precise answer than the old apps including stock.
