It is a Sechsling. I couldn't find an english translation of the history of this coin. It was minted in Hamburg.

Aha, I was waiting for clarification on the date before claiming my victory! Thanks, Uli!

Okay, so let’s do something different. Before I pose the question, I need to give you a bit of background.

On 16 June 2003, I ran in one of the world’s great road races, the Comrades Marathon. This demanding ultramarathon race is run annually between the South African cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Each year, the direction changes, and in 2003 the “down” race was from the inland Pietermaritzburg to the coastal Durban, over a distance of 89.17 kilometres (55.41 miles). I placed 540th out of 12,450 finishers, which placed me comfortably in the top 5 % of the field. My official finishing time was 7 hours, 22 minutes and 42 seconds, and I earned a coveted silver medal for finishing in under 7½ hours.

Preparing for a race like this requires a serious commitment and a lot of dedication over many months. In South Africa, the “Comrades Marathon training season” is (unofficially) viewed as starting on 1 January each year. So, my question is: what total distance did I run in the 166 days between 1 January 2003 and 15 June 2003, in training for the Comrades Marathon? Answers are preferably to be given in kilometres, but as I am sure many of you prefer to work in miles, remember that there are 1.609344 kilometres in a mile.

(I do have a tiebreaker question, but I'll only pose it if I need it.)

Hey uli,
Sechsling is German and I think it stands for sextuplet. But don't quote me on that.

Yep and no. A Sechsling is a coin.
Now back on topic. How many miles has John N run in practice mode?

Update on the guesses so far:

750 km: James Sotherden
1586 km: Chris S
2000 km: Miep
3400 km: Mike
4500 km: John McLeod VII

Some interesting numbers! I'll allow one change, and I'll say this: Mike is too high, and James is too low.
