"clap! clap! clap!" Groooooaannnnn..... lol Thanks to everyone in the lab for all their hard work. I guess I'll have to find an excuse to go down to the basement and wake up BOINC. (I removed it from Windows scheduled tasks when I started having Einstein trouble, so it only runs if I log on.) I will only let it have 1 task until I know if SETI will also cause a crash, though. I gots lots!!! Me to.... With the weather cold right now it's good to have 4 systems running. It really does take the chill out of the air. Thanks to everyone that contributed and worked on getting the heat turned back on. |

Are we going to put up a new News Item on the front page to let everyone know we're back up and running? Or is this some sort of test-run before the announcement? |

Are we going to put up a new News Item on the front page to let everyone know we're back up and running? Or is this some sort of test-run before the announcement? No need for an announcement. The BOINC software was written to take care of sites that have no work for an extended period. Look at LHC@home. |

Are we going to put up a new News Item on the front page to let everyone know we're back up and running? Or is this some sort of test-run before the announcement? Agreed, but people have been complaining in Q&A about the lack of news. Some people have made the assumption with the automated weekly outage message that it mean the servers were working. I was hoping that a news item would help quell some of those complaints. |

"clap! clap! clap!" Greetings David, Not to veer off topic but... I have been reading so much about others having a problem running Einstein. This has really go me stumped now. I have been having problems with my i7 PC ever since I re-attached to Einstein 30 some days ago. I cannot get to the bottom of the problem. Here's a link to a thread I started on the Einstein forum. Please read that thread and let me know if any of it pertains to your problem with Einstein. Thank you! :) Keep on BOINCing...! :) [edit] PS - Great job, guys, on getting the SETI project going again. Now, if only I can get my i7 to run BOINC again, without a problem... Thanks guys! :) [/edit] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. First off, way to go SETI team!! Thanks for all you do. In regards to posting the fact that the issue is resolved and now "Up". I agree that there should be a posting on the SETI homepage in the News section. Some people may only look at that page and nothing is stated there about the success. It still shows, "Weekly Outage and Initial Catch Up" as of 10:06 PST. How about posting some positive news? Also it would save "crunchers the timeof foraging through the Message Boards for project status. You guys deserve the recognition as it is VERY newsworthy. Plus it would be a courtesy to all your loyal "crunchers" that hung with you through this last few weeks and didn't bail on the project. ...I'm just saying. Thanks again SETI team! |

...Not to complain, but I noticed this on the Science Status page: "Overflow rate 25,596.0% (inserted in the last 10 minutes)" Did someone drop a decimal, or mis-place one? In theory, that rate should never be above 100%... . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

Are we going to put up a new News Item on the front page to let everyone know we're back up and running? Or is this some sort of test-run before the announcement? The problem is that many people (including myself) had set Seti to NNT during the downtime. They might not change it back to ANT until they know the project is back up and new work is being created. I have a feeling there will be a front page announcement, but not until the crew is certain they have everything up and running the way it needs to be. Oh, and I just noticed that all but two splitters are currently "disabled," and those two are "not running," so I think the gang is still working on some things. So far I've gotten about a dozen units on my laptop, but nothing on my main machine yet. I'd also like to thank the gang at UCB for all the hard work they've put in these last few weeks getting the new machines setup and everything cleaned up. I'd also like to again thank all those who donated during the many fundraisers. Without your generosity (and some of you were very generous), the new servers wouldn't have been possible. Give yourselves a pat on the back. Justin |

The kitties and myself would like to give a big thumbs (and paws) up to Eric, Matt, Jeff, and everybody else who had a hand in making this happen. It's been a long time in coming, and I am sure there will be some growing pains as adjustments have to be made. But....you did it. We did it.... Thanks for everybody who kept the faith alive during the long, cold outage. Meow meow. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." |

In case anybody is wondering - we're trying to increase various settings like I mentioned at the top of the thread, and this is leading to the predictably unexpected snags. No worries - we've proven we can fall back to this morning's settings without much ado, but we're leaving splitters/assimilators off for now in case we can figure this out quickly. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. I'd just like to point out that there is now a not on the front page (and their Facebook fan page) that the project is now up and running, but that some servers may be up/down over the next few weeks to finalize things. Justin |

Another quick note instead of a new thread: We did finally uncover the one configurable necessary to make use of the vast amount of extra memory on oscar. Just to start we doubled the informix read/write buffer space, and that seems to be working. The processes are larger in size, and for the first time since we turned everything back on our bandwidth is totally maxed out, which leads me to believe things are pretty darn smooth. Tomorrow we'll quadruple the buffer space from where they are now. Mwha ha ha ha. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea.
