Message 1042655 - Posted: 16 Oct 2010, 13:01:49 UTC - in response to Message 1042653.

Just 2 downloads.

Steve

I am not absolutely sure, but if they are in 'project backoff' status, that may inhibit work requests.
Try punching the retry button and see if you can get them to complete...it may not be easy right now.
I suspect if you can get them to complete, or at least hang in 'downloading' status while a work request is being made, Boinc will request some more work.

That you Mark! I think you may be right. It was in a downloading status when it did request work. I'll keep trying.

Steve

That's what I thought I had been seeing in trying to get work here.

The ol' kitty sniffers smell something fishy in the servers......something is just not quite right.
IF one of the boyz has the time and is so inclined, I would not be surprised to see a server reboot sometime today.

The trick is to keep it in downloading mode, which is very difficult. I just got 49 tasks, but it went immediatly into backoff mode, and won't come out due to traffic.

Well, I am in download mode, and tried a manual update, and was back to the not requesting tasks bit. I hope it doesn't start to just trickle work in. That would be quite tiresome.

That is exactly what is going on.
I sense that if something is not corrected, the hosts will keep trying and retrying to complete downloads, without getting many of them home or filling their caches.
If that continues, we could keep the Cricket graph looking like it does now for weeks.

I'm rebooting now as I am typing on my non-crunching laptop.

Well, I just rebooted the Frozen One, and it didn't improve a thing.......
Started downloads, and almost nothing but HTTP errors all the way down.

DLs?

Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Message from server: No work sent
Message from server: This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress

IIRC, Jeff mentioned that we'll have this week after the outage a/the high limit.

Hmm.. it's look like not.
At least not at my machines..

Someone know why we have only the small limit?

Right now I am not worried about the limit.....
I am worried about the problem with downloading what has already been assigned to my rigs.

The kitties sense something wrong with the download server or network configuration. And it's pretty hard to fool a kitty.

Piggy does seem to be requesting work, and my download transfer que is increasing. I'm still not able to actually download much, but at least it seems to be requesting work. Thank you both!

Same as on the Frozen One......
It makes a work request when the download queue just happens to be in the right state and gets more work assigned. But can't get it downloaded.

There does not seem to be much of a problem connecting to Seti right now, uploads and reporting seem to be doing just fine.
It's just the downloads.....very low transfer rates and almost all downloads fail with HTTP errors. Then retry again, and again, and again.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

I'm getting a few downloads going through, at about 5 to 15KBs, but then i get other downloads that if they start at all, hardly go above 1KBs,
suspect one download server is saturated with downloads, and the other is less so,

I still get the occaisional not requesting tasks, but it is much better than it was. At least over time by download cache is increasing. I need about 2500 wu's for three days crunching. More if I maintain some buffer, which seems to be wise.

Yes I think something is still wrong on the server.
I have systems still without work.
Tuesday is coming up again fast (sigh).

The "Retry Now" button is the only thing that has gotten me any WU's this morning. I now have no transfers pending, but when I try a manual update all I get is the "Not reporting or requesting tasks" message from the server. My preferences are set to try and keep about three days work on hand. Strange.

Any thoughts?

The "Not reporting or requesting tasks" message comes from your local client, not from the server.

Thanks, I already did.

Huge thank you for the "Retry Now" tip/solution to my pending downloads. I've got enough work for about six hours now. Hopefully I'll get some more WU's later today.

I have got a ton of work stuck in download land since last night. Probally get a new crop of ghosts out of it. I knew I should have left my NNT button alone:)

If they are in the Transfers tab, they can't be ghosts! Obviously, your client has received the list of assigned tasks from the server.
