Message 1015640 - Posted: 14 Jul 2010, 19:29:03 UTC

Yesterday I was getting new tasks for both of my computers. Welll the downloads would not download and the BOINC program itself wouldn't switch from an ACTIVE download (with problems) to going in to "Project Backoff" mode when there are downloading issues. I would actually have to sit there and within BOINC click the "activity" menu in the toolbar and switch the newtwork communication on and off just to get between 1kB-5kB downloads.

Odd thing was that 20 mins into me ddoing this all the tasks named 18no09aj... started to download normally, while the rest were timing out.

AAny clue to what this is?
Thanks!
Bill

perryjay's answer still applies. I don't think the type of work unit has to do with it. Those 18no09aj... tasks were probably the last ones to get through before the server connection was cut off.

Gruß,
Gundolf

Ok, I'll try a little deeper....
There are two download servers. It was probably one super busy while the other one had cleared when you asked to download. Sometimes a download will hang when the server is busy, taking your request but not having enough bandwidth to send the WU. The download speed you see is when the server talks to your manager during download. If it hangs just after it tells you one speed, that will remain until the server manages to get through again.

Gundolf brought up something I didn't think of. If those other WUs never finished downloading his reply applies. They just didn't get sent in time before the servers were shut down. They will resume when we come back online Friday.

Seti is on their second 3 day shutdown since noon yesterday
If you got any downloads it must have been before the shutdown & your computer was just catching up

At my work they gave me a badge with my name on it so I can remember who I am. They were also kind enough to put my picture on it in case I forget what I look like.

I'm lucky or maybe not, It depends, I remember too much sometimes. :D

Heck in 5 years I could move into a senior complex.
