Odd dowloading yesterday 07/13, dropped connections

Welll the downloads would not download and the BOINC program itself wouldn't switch from an ACTIVE download (with problems) to going in to "Project Backoff" mode when there are downloading issues. I would actually have to sit there and within BOINC click the "activity" menu in the toolbar and switch the newtwork communication on and off just to get between 1kB-5kB downloads. Odd thing was that 20 mins into me ddoing this all the tasks named 18no09aj... started to download normally, while the rest were timing out. AAny clue to what this is? Thanks! Bill ID: 1015640 ·

I don't think the type of work unit has to do with it. Those 18no09aj... tasks were probably the last ones to get through before the server connection was cut off. Last modified: 14 Jul 2010, 19:46:42 UTC Ok, I'll try a little deeper.... There are two download servers. It was probably one super busy while the other one had cleared when you asked to download. Sometimes a download will hang when the server is busy, taking your request but not having enough bandwidth to send the WU. The download speed you see is when the server talks to your manager during download. If it hangs just after it tells you one speed, that will remain until the server manages to get through again. Gundolf brought up something I didn't think of. If those other WUs never finished downloading his reply applies. They just didn't get sent in time before the servers were shut down.
