I came to help find ET. Not test their software over and over and over.

You just chose a very bad time to join - bad luck to you.

If you feel so inclined, then I'd suggest you take a break for a month and come back then. Maybe you'll find a mostly working project, which is what happens most of the time - to the point that I don't recall the last outage of this length.

Still, you could have joined LHC. Welcome to a project that has work about as much as this project doesn't. LHC is (or at least was) in production too.

Most of the server down time has been completely un-necessary. Again, standardized testing goes alpha, beta, then production.

This is an alpha test, or is being used for one. Going to other projects, no.
Just going to shut boinc down completely. Goal and gone.

Didn't really think about the colour, closest i could get to a cheerleader. Call him...an avid supporter with a flag.
There we go. Cheering on the Seti@home team, despite all the unrealistic expectations of them.

By your judgement. You don't know all the facts. Neither do I. Some of what has happened could certainly have been done better and some of it seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm sure the staff would agree. The rest? Until they put all the fires out and we get a technical news upsate, it's jsut guesswork.

Again, standardized testing goes alpha, beta, then production.

then maintenance. And you forgot about RC too. Guess what? We're in maintenance. Sorry about that.

This is an alpha test, or is being used for one.

Closer to Beta. Alpha tends to be done in-house. Actually Beta test was done on these changes, but there's a big difference between a few hundred users and a few tens of thousands.

Going to other projects, no. Just going to shut boinc down completely. Goal and gone.

Your choice, and the choice of thousands before you. Nothing wrong with that. I'd much rather people spend their time doing something productive than incessantly complaining. The former gets a result, the latter just annoys everyone else.

The "complaining" could actually be productive, if anyone bothered to consider the points being made. "closer to beta"... but not ready for beta? none of these recent wrench-in-the-works changes to my understanding went to seti-beta.

Taking things down for a few hours of maintinance is not an issue to me. never has been. A flipping yo yo because things have not been right for over a month.. because of poorly written and untested code implementation.. without further comment.. PROBLEM.

Yeah my mistake. I thought some time in the last 10 years they would have gotten this working. My bad. But seriously, they should change the BOINC listing from "production" to "Alpha". And guess what.. I do not beta test,
let alone alpha test.

So suspending new.. going to finish my 100K mark and dump it. I have better things to do.

Motocross, SETI, Johnnie Walker and Red Bull and girls are my problems. I don´t know the proper order.

You wanna get that sorted out mate ! :-))

Nah... I try to do it before, but its pointless. I need them all and won´t fight against it anymore, its just lost of energy. Energy that I shall put on all to be on top always (my god no joke again) LOL.

"Energy that I shall put on all to be on top always"
I like that, I bet you set your World on fire, don't ever stop.

Yeah, you bet. Better 10 years at 100 than 100 years at 10? Oh well, maybe 50 at 50...
So back on topic (so many topic with flames lately), how kitties are going mark?

Ahh yes... you have done the lead clown proud. Expect everyone to do the troubleshooting. And then insult if they fail to comply. Nice. Real nice.

Now then.. why is it the number of users is shrinking not growing?

Oh no need to worry. Some other sucker will come along.

Thank you, and your kind for destroying a project that at one point in time had potential. You and your kind have surgically removed it.

Yes, that's me. The ghost in the machine. Destroying the Seti code one line at a time, with pure thought alone i might add!

I make graphic card manufacturers produce non-seti compatible cards. I make the Seti code writers make errors so the code will fail. Well, me and a few other ghosts.

I'm the surgeon to the stars. Surgically removing 1 line of code per day. Wait, i'm the ghost, no, i'm a surgeon, ghost, surgeon, THE DESTROYER OF SETI!!

Dude, how can i make Seti@home run better on your computer for you? Would you like wu's personally home delivered? Exactly what do you want? What are you expecting?

More the a month ago, I became so depressed and ill and also wrote a post, slowly shutting down my hosts.

But soon realized that wouldn't help at all, so I didn't shut down.

Opened an account at SETI BÊTA and started reading everything I could find about
ASTROPULSE, even D'loaded Joshua Korff's piece about Astropulse and became quite interrested.
And now, still here, no reason to leave, only regained interrest.
My hosts, are on a 'diet', for whatever reason, but still crunching away ;-)

@ Mark, your eyes are important, ~20 years ago had a emergency surgery on my Right-eye and 6 weeks later a catarract-surgery, which all went very well.
Nowadays these are very common and very often performed, it's a safe and a 1 day procedure.
Just set your priorities.....

Jeez dude, Stop crying like a 4 year old who didnt get a cookie. My wish is all you complainers who threaten to quit, would quit. Sure you want your 100,000 but that could take months. Im sure most of us who are patient do not want to read any more of your idiotic rants.

Bah this is nothing compared to the tantrums, tears, walkouts and mass suicides when we switched from Seti Classic to BOINC.

I remember that well.

"what's a cobblestone?"

"what happens to my wu's already crunched?"

People thought they were losing their status, and lost the plot.

Ah, those were the days.

If the project went down back then, *everything* stopped. There was no cache in the client - fetch a WU, work on it, return it, fetch the next one.

Then SetiQueue came along. Ah, thankyou!

When the work, and accounts, were transferred over to BOINC, WU counts seemed to be held by some as a symbol of their manhood. Woe betide anyone that dared even suggest the idea of taking them away. You'd have thought Armageddon was due at any moment! Guess what? The world didn't end on 18th December 2005.

Just to prove my point. Update just posted...

Our upload server disk array crashed last night. The project is down until we sort this out.

So that's a hardware failure then. Or at least the software controlling that hardware - since the SETI@home team usually use software arrays.
