and when I leave this planet, somebody is surely gonna ask WTF did he drill a hole into the living room floor and run a 50 amp service up here?????? LOL.

My first guess and any police officer would think the former owner had one hell of a Hydroponics garden in their basement. I'm not talkin about vegetables either.

Ya know.......
I often wondered when the locals were gonna show up at my doorstep and ask WTF I was doing with all that electricity......

The electricity alone shouldn't bring suspicion, but they may fly a helecoptor over your house, and look for closed rooms with a certain wavelength of heat emerging... Fortunately I have no idea what you are talking about....:)

I bet your electric company meter reader wonders about that every time he/she comes to your house.

It's all automated......

I spent a summer changing out meters for that.

And almost blew myself up doing so........LOL....I posted a story about it. I will look it up and repost if you do not remember.

They just installed automated meters in our area last month. Never heard of them before that.

Repost away. Sounds like you had (Almost) a blast.

I'm back for just 2 weeks and seen nothing but trouble...

hahah, you and me both. I haven't crunched seti in maybe 3 years. but someone gave me a gtx 260, so I thought I'd give it a shot again. I think seti has crashed every day since I rejoined.

I can only agree with Mark. Its time to leave Seti. To many downtimes, bad Boinc Managers etc.

I am crunching only a little bit now.

This post should not be understood as a good bye, but Seti and Boinc are not anymore my main Internet interest.

Mark it might be worth starting a rig up.
Rig on a Bench has been getting work more steadily this morning and has about 1 days work in hand.
The time estimations are looking good for 608's and 603's and AP's times are coming down to a good level.
Keep the Kitties crunching.

I think you shut them down at the wrong time, Mark. Just got more tasks in the last hour than I've gotten in the entire previous week.

about 400 so far and still getting more.

Wouldn't be the same without some drama llama! :)

Mark (aah, namesake!), do what you have to do (especially with the eyes - believe me I know that one all too well and would do anything if someone said they could fix mine), but don't run away because it's all gone pear-shaped at this moment.

These days I do this stuff all for the community rather than the project. I wouldn't invest anything like as much of my hard earned (easily past £10k now) into it without that community, so yes, it's sad to see anyone want to up sticks and leave, and especially the 'characters' who get themselves noticed for the right reasons. You're definitely one of those. :)

I've left before. I've come back before. But I won't leave just because the project is going through a terrible bad patch (and it certainly is). I think you've got the right idea - let the hardware rest and yourself recuperate while the project gets its ducks in a row, and then come back for more.

I'm sure they will get it sorted - unless of course they all get fed up with the mud slinging and leave to do bigger and better things. Sometimes I wouldn't blame them for that.

Whatever you decide, good luck and take care (especially those eyes!)

Hey Thats better Mark... I know the power bills, the cost of hardware and the hours babysitting the machines day after day are hard to manage.
But you will miss it all too much to stay out of it, if not missing already. Just give it a week or so, take a short vacation of all, and then come back at 110% :D

God Lord-yuu'd think the Earth is going to blew up or something.

First off--Kitty man's never going to leave....this much I have learned. You'll crunch enough to stay active in the forums. You know I'm right. :)

Second--I just got plenty of work on my DC and I haven't tweaked, renamed or done anything else. Maybe people just need to relax. There are so many other projects that contribute to significant issues on our plsnet--why not give one a try?

Well, better he vents his frustration here than, say, shooting up the local Government office building or sending an envelope of white, powdery substance to Dr. A in Berkeley ......

I'm not a fan of the big "cruncher farms", or wingmen with multiple gpus that run 1000+ WU caches that take 8 weeks to process and report while I have Pending WUs that are 3 and 4 months old, but I do see that many of the complaints Mark and others have raised are valid.

The recent software changes WERE handled poorly. There SHOULD have been some advance notice of what was being changed (and how and why), what effects we expected to see, so we could watch and report problems, and to avoid the unpleasant "Surprises" and the firestorm of complaints we saw here. To not do that was a very poor MANAGEMENT decision.

It was probably also a mistake to implement so many changes at once. I learned long ago, working with electronics and industrial controls that the more things you change, the more likely you are to have unexpected effects, cause additional problems, and make your troubleshooting that much more difficult.

I know that Matt, Eric, Jeff, and the rest work very hard keeping this project (and all the others they work on) up and running. But they could do a better job if they did just a little more to keep us Users in the loop, so we can HELP, and not be surprised/upset/angered when things don't go as expected.

For whatever reasons, we are all here because we WANT to be. We want to be a part of this, we want to help. We have knowledge, skills, and experience that could be more useful to the project if we know what is going on, what changes are coming.

We are here to help. Let us.
