Jeez, a two hour nap turned into a five hour nap. There goes most of my day.. :/

sounds like a very productive day to me.

Actually, after the nap I had more energy than usual and still did everything I had planned on today. The only problem, it's after 11:PM and I'm not even remotely tired and will probably be up until 3:AM. Then I have to get ready for work at 6:AM. I'm going to feel like crap all day tomorrow.

Edit: *Waves back at Michael* :)

Just past 7 million total credits for all projects! Woot!!

Congrats!

Thanks!

Are you still working in police/fire dispatch? Any weird calls lately?

I have a friend that does the same thing, she always has a story to tell me about some weird call/s they got.

The last really strange one was a call to a house because a ladies son wouldn't clean his room. LOL! And the same lady had called before complaining her son wasn't home after a curfew she set for him. They found the son with his friends and gave her a warning not call 911 for non-emergencies again. They responded the last time by arresting her and giving temporary custody of her son to her family. It's a shame she can't control her son but that's not what 911 is for.

Yeah, still working away there. Nothing strange lately, although on Saturday, in 1 hour, I had 3 deaths happen. 2 in a car crash, 1 found floating in the river near the police station.

Yeah, Sad but not so strange. We get some really weird ones over here. Most of them in the summer when out of staters are here at the beaches.

My son is working this summer at a call centre, tech support for a Cable TV company. Last night he got The Classic Call. You hear about these, and think they are made up, but no...

Customer calls up, complains that he isn't getting any image on his TV. No lights on the cable box. My son starts him through the standard troubleshooting question list (what is plugged into what, etc.). On about item 3 the guy says "I can't see that plug". When asked why, the customer says "all the lights went out about 20 minutes ago, right about the time the cable died".

After a brief pause, my son told him to call the power company. The customer got indignant, and hung up.

LOL! Now that's funny! I'm sure your son didn't find it too funny at the time but..

It is just a summer job, and he did see the humour in it. He is counting the days till classes start again.

Another classic call was from an irate customer wanting to know why there was all this pay-per-view porn on their bill. My son was able to tell him the exact times of each billing, and the customer got really upset. "I wasn't even home then! There was nobody home except ...", long pause, then customer comes back much more quietly "... my 12 year old daughter.".

the joke is not always on the customer.

We started receiving complaints about a malfunctioning time recording. Customers were complaining that they picked up the phone, and the time recording was on it "At the tone, the time will be....".

Well the first one or two we just thought the customers were out of their minds.
But we got more and more reports of this... So we began investigating.

We discovered there were in fact phone calls coming in to those lines, but they were not from the time number(it was incoming only, simply could not call out)

This was in an era where custom calling features were new.. call waiting, call forwarding, 3 way calling.. And apparently a new form of crank call was being born. The prankster would first call the time number, then call the victim and bridge them together.

While this did not completely end the problem, it at least gave us with a way to handle the problem, rather than sending the "Time Lady" to jail.

Fiendishly clever, those pranksters. Just goes to show you have to listen to the customer, no matter how big an idiot they first appear to be.

LOL! That would be a bit awkward for me if my daughter did that. Sounds like something my son would do.

I agree, it is/was very clever. Can't imagine the kinds of things they can do these days.

oh the evolution went on from there. I think the next fad was modems up on autodialer every few minutes(would keep calling the same number over and over until another modem answered). About that time, I stopped seeing that type of report. And that has been a lot of years.

I'm getting a cold. In July.

I grew up in the Midwest, but now that I live in a warmer clime, it always surprises me when I get a cold. It doesn't happen that often, but it does happen.
