The tortoise is an African Sulcatta. They can grow to about 2 feet across from left to right, and live just south of the Sahara. I used to have one here, but I sent it to Florida, where the winters weren't so harsh.

My tortoise was more of a bull dozer. The problem was that it pooped a big mess, and tracked it all over the house. I wore out 3 carpet shampooers. I was cleaning the carpet 5 days a week. Finally the tortoise started eating the carpet. I named her Goliath. She loved to bask in front of the fire place in the winter. I would often measure her shell temperature at 110 to 115 F.

Given the season and in light of that last post, I would like to suggest a Halloween costume for Mr. Scarecrow...

I've been anticipating something like this... surprised it took nearly 12 hours to hit! I'll accept my punishment costume, but I refuse to go wee wee wee all the way home.

Given the amount of beer you claim to drink, I cannot imagine any other way you possibly COULD go home...

Really beautiful Scot, Dune! My ex and I used to have 2 of them (adults); one was all-black except for one single white hair on his chest and he had the "gull-fold" to his ears (only half-folded); the other was smoke-grey, longhaired and had straight ears, but all of the other Scot features - each weighed-in at around 14#!!

We got the black one ("Moggysmoore's Black Bear") from a cattery in MA for $75; he was a retired breeder and when we re-registered him in our name with the CFA, we found out he was a Grand Champion!

The other one ("Summerlin's Sting") we got for free from a friend who moved and couldn't take him with her.

Was in a pet shop one day when a lady came in trying to sell them a dog. She was telling them all about the papers she had on him and how he was a champion and this and that then she finished up by adding ...oh yeah, and he's already been fixed!
