Paraplegic since age 3, occasional mild depression, asthma and chronic OCD (OverClocker's Disorder.)... [I guess, being both an engineer(electronic) & a scientist(computer) may count as a form of syndrome of some sort... probably far more debilitating than the physical ones...]

This thread has gone fat beyond the "Disabled: Yes or No" original premise so I thought I'd post more.

Someone said they thought it was because of their disability that they were here-that idea has stuck with me for some reason. Yes if you're limited to the home because of your disability, forums are a huge outlet but I just don't see the disability as a primary reason for being here (or on any forum).

Nope, wore the earplugs to protect my hearing but because of them and the noises I had to sort of read lips to tell what someone was saying. Now I still do it even without the noise. Most Arty or Airwing types will tell you the same anyone that's worked in very loud areas.

I think the people who bring up children are confusing disability and liability.

I still have one liability living at home, never considered either of them a disability.

But seriously, thanks to everyone for opening up in this thread. It all reminds me of how blessed I am, and how truly minor all my problems are.

I agree with you on that Bill, I know I have very little to complain about compared to so many others. My friend and neighbour has two children, her oldest was born with a severe chromosomal disability and has the mental age of a 3 month old baby. He is 11 years old and will never walk or talk. He can hardly see and is deaf. Yet his mother loves him and he brings joy to her life.

Her youngest has ADHD and oppositional defiance disorder and I also think he has Aspergers tendencies. He simply doesn't have an off switch.

I am reminded everyday how lucky I am.

I really don't see having children as a disability. Although I can see where they could be annoying at times.
If They were/are disabled that would count.
I know that in the past here we had quite a number of disabled posters.
Some of them sadly have passed on and I Know we have more Handicapable folks here who haven't posted. So I will wait a while yet to see who else posts before closing this thread.
Thanks to those who have posted as it gives me an idea of the demographics of our current posters.

workin' on my person w/ sEMG Clinical equipment awarded to me via the courts - will

'arrest' the disintegration and then work on getting baCk to my usual top-notch shape -

though with the realization that i can never be that which i was previously . .


[and i shall be seeing the Supreme Court in Washington DC in the not-too-distant future -

recallin' the faCt that i have a 'Fully Favorable' Decision that that case is standin' on -

As I mentioned elsewhere - Stroke Survivor. To be more accurate, Multiple Stroke survivor. had my first at 39, and I'm a tad over 50 now.

Oddly proud of it :) Tho' quite what, I'm not sure of. Not having strokes as such, though I'm pleased to hear it wasn't anything I've done. I think it's because I've been a bit "Jack and Jill". I've fallen down that hill so many times, and scrambled back up again, losing a bit, but learning so much, much more every time. :)

That's enabled me to advise others a great deal less fortunate than myself. Quite humbling.
