I sure do miss having Ned Ludd around, does anyone know why he left? Just have a star left in my friends list....

He left because of some of the stupid reactions here on Seti's outages. As far as I can tell he has no intention in coming back, ever.

His alter ego still posts occasionally on the BOINC mailing lists, so he's OK, and his specialist knowledge is not entirely lost to us.

Sometimes you just get fed up fighting the same old battles over and over again! Particularly if you're the sort of person who can't help responding when a pet subject is mentioned.

I miss them too. I may not always have agreed with what they said but they always made good points and backed them up which made for a good read. When they gave advice it was usually spot on and finally, it's just too bloody quiet around here without them.

Did anyone maybe think that someone got a partner, and would rather spend quality with them, and not have to explain themselves here?

OK, i'll explain.

I've been off work for over 2 years now. Had my knee fixed, yet it's not fixed. I sit at home all day with nothing to do. I don't have the money to keep up with the social engagements i once had.

If i was in the relationship i had, when money wasn't an issue, you'd have never heard of me.

To put it simply, if i was happy as i once was, i wouldn't need to express my loneliness here, would i? Circumstances find me here. I find myself in the same boat as Mark. We do what we can.

Ned replied to a PM from me and said he probably won't be back...due to simply "being tired" of the forums.

I find myself in a different situation. I have a great wife, nice house, and plenty of science books. On these forums, I found a whole nest of very intelligent people, with a huge variety of specialities. I found that being a part of this greatly enhanced what I had before. That's just me.

To put it simply Bill Walker, if i had a Mrs that loved me, i wouldn't have the time to be here.

Perhaps those you are referring to, "found a real life".

They left the lonely to their own devices.

So you post here. Too much time kill, not enough love to fill the time.

My world would, and was, in my past Seti incarnations (1st jan 2000) be a HOBBY, not an obsession. Something that people wouldn't miss my day to day abscence, as apparently happens here.

Getting out of the house, anything but the pre-requisite of Seti@home forums, and a poor relationship, justifies the frequency here of many people.

If they had a domestic life, and/or a personal life, you wouldn't see you here.

I agree with you Steve, nothing wrong with a hobby. I have seen people with stranger and more expensive hobbies. Some of us are real busy with life and use this as an escape.
All I can say to Fayvitt is that I hope your knee gets better and you lose a bit of the bitterness and maybe someone will love you again. I didn't walk for 2 years because of motorcycle wreck yet had a girlfriend and social life just not much money.
