Ok I'll spill It, I have some good news all, I'm going to adopt a Cat soon I think, I say I think cause I also have the distinct pleasure of getting the cars A/C fixed in July for $302.38(lovely), But I'm on My way as 3 of My relatives chipped in and sent Me an early birthday present of $100.00, I've spent $27.70 already, On 18lbs of dry cat food, 8.2lbs of Feline Pine clumping cat litter(I have a new Littermaid Elite Mega(blue and White with a black or white ramp) automated litter box all ready & waiting), 2 Stater Brothers cloth bags(a plastic bag ban may become state law in California in 2011, both cost $0.99ea) and some ice cream for Me, The Cat will hopefully be poddy trained, female(or male) & and older than a kitten and yet not too old, I'm getting the kitty from a nearby shelter too, It's Apple Valley or the nearby Army Base @ Ft. Irwin and I hope I find a kitty in Apple Valley(It was going to be Barstow) as I'm not too crazy about stepping foot on an Army base again, As It brings back some good and some bad memories that I'd just as soon forget. At least I've laid in some supplies for a kitty now and It's was 99°F / 37°C plus 8% humidity outside today. I'd love to get both, But sadly that isn't in the cards. I'm waiting until the 1st as that's as soon as I can get the A/C fixed, I don't need a sick cat as It can get pretty warm inside the car right now. Right now there are two leading candidates: Squeakers/Female(Left, Apple Valley) and Captain Jack/Male(Right, Ft.Irwin), Both are Large The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

This is it!!! Thanks Angela, Hopefully one of them will be there, As people don't always update petfinder entries and Capt Jack has been there a while and He's a looker, I like black cats and He looks like He's in a Tux. Problem is It's an Army Base that He's at, sigh. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Great movie that isn't it? (Zombieland for those not with us!). Well, survived the first day in Death Valley. It was 115F today, very very toastie by my standards (Hottest ever recorded in UK is 101F). Went chasing dust devils earlier, managed to drive the car right through 2 of them - so glad it's not my car... Also done a bit of dirt track driving to get to marble canyon, stunning views - it was worth the bone shaking getting there! Tomorrow we will do Scotty's Castle, Badwater and a few other bone shaking tracks that I want to visit. Having a great time here. Just had dinner and feeling very contented. It's still over 100F outside - thank heavans for A/C! Yes, plenty of pics being taken, but will save posting them for when I get home to England. It will give me something to do to cheer me up from the returning home blues! Nice pussies Vic. Captain Jack is my favourite :) |

Was watching the baseball game (Jays vs Padres) and a little earthquake in San Diego a few minutes ago. Hope everyone there is okay. I am on the board of trustees of our local hospital and I have helped design it. The MRI room is reinforced with copper rods. Aluminum was then used as a shield. All hospitals in California re required to be built to survive a 7.0 with no structural damage. Normal building are only required to remain standing so people can escape. Big difference in the standard. No ductile does not mean no reinforcement, just no iron reinforcement. I think I see 900 |

Was watching the baseball game (Jays vs Padres) and a little earthquake in San Diego a few minutes ago. Hope everyone there is okay. Problem is there is a story on KCBS asking when they'd be brought up to earthquake standards and yes I found It Here, It's entitled "Hundreds Of Calif. Hospitals At Risk Of Collapse" Their talking about Hospitals constructed before the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake, Which woke Me up, I think school had ended for spring break and We were about to go on a small vacation. Of the two Van Norman reservoirs only one survives today I think as one came close to total collapse, If the ground had shook for a few more seconds It would have done major damage to that area of Sylmar. All hospitals in California re required to be built to survive a 7.0 with no structural damage. The operative word there is "built". I work in a very old building that is part of a very large hospital complex. I suspect there must be some provision in the law for exempting older facilities. There has been talk for decades about my department being moved to a newer (more structurally sound) facility, but I've been there 21 years and we haven't moved yet! I think my hospital's CEO must just keep on getting extensions from the state to keep us where we are. The standing "joke" among the the 300 or so people who work in my building is that our hospital badges should be fitted with secret locator signals, so that after the "big one" they can retrieve all our bodies from the rubble. |

All hospitals in California re required to be built to survive a 7.0 with no structural damage. Well if It is a joke, It sounds more like Gallows humor, But that's ok, Better to cut the tension than something else. I know of one Hospital I'd trust in an earthquake and two others I'd partly trust as the two have added on new parts and the one I fully trust was built much later than 1971, Of course naturally the one I'd trust in an earthquake doesn't take medi-cal/medicaid or most major medical insurance, just the places own brand of insurance as their a for profit ripoff joint(They fixed My leg and ruined My life, I ignored them), My Sister-in-law works at a modern county Hospital that was built after 1971 in the Maternity Ward as She's an RN.
