Oh lordy.....
I am winded.

Just broke out my overclocked Lawn Boy to mow the front lawn for the first time this year.

Yes, even my lawnmower goes to 11. A few hundred RPM faster than stock....6.5HP at 2900RPM?
I don't think so...LOL.
I run it a bit on the rich side and keep the oil:fuel ratio a little high so's I don't burn it up.

Cuts mowing time by 1/3....or as I found out today, maybe 1/2 if you use 3rd gear. When you really wanna git er' dun.
Ever do a 4 wheel drift running behind a 21" self propelled? Yee hah. Never again.

You see, 2nd gear is kinda like a quick walker's pace, keeps ya moving right along. Today I tried 3rd gear for the first time.

Now, 3rd gear is more akin to walking your dobie when he spies a french poodle in heat 3 blocks away and the leash gets tangled around your wrist. Know what I mean?

I think the neighbor is still laughing. They usually don't see the ol' kittyman moving that fast unless I'm driving my RX7.

Heavy grass? No problem for this bad boy.
Last year's leftover leaves? Insta-mulch.
Tree branch? Campfire kindling.
Dandelions or tigers or bears? Mincemeat.
Beer can? Shrapnel....(I thought is was one of them silly ass foil chip bags blowing across the lawn, but I was moving so fast, I couldn't stop...)INCOMING!

Oh well, I never sharpen the blade until after the second mowing or so for the very reason that certain 'less movable objects than grass' always seem to show up over the winter.

Happy mowing.

LOL!

Hey Mark mine needs it's first cut to if you want to come and do mine.

It's a terrible thing when your job is to look after hundreds of acres of grass and the last thing you want to do is cut your own.

Thats why I allways aim the shute at there house when I mow the lawn.:) Thanks for the laugh.

Boy, Mark, I don't know whether to laugh or cry! I just finished doing the preseason tuneup on my trusty old Toro mulcher. Grass isn't quite long enough to warrant a mowing, but within the next week it'll be go time. My main obstacles are pine cones. I can go out there prior to mowing with a fine tooth comb and extract several 5 gallon buckets of the little beggars, but never get 'em all. If I'm set low enough to the ground it's just a few loud bangs (and a few more nicks on the blade), but if I'm at a bit longer setting, they will make their escape at a high velocity. This explains that additional 4 inch wide rubber apron I added to rear end between the wheels. No new scars on my ankles! But if you're within 30 feet to port, starboard, or dead ahead, you are in the "kill zone".

You know Mark if you hooked up some nitro and wore some roller skates you could cut your mowing time down a lot.:)

Mark cuts and I do herbicide, Mark likes His grass, Mine are invasive weeds(crab grass or devils grass), Literally. Have fun Mark(Good Luck), Mines dying as I speak, As I've sprayed It twice, the results are good, Some is still green though, So I'll have to get them sprayed one more time soon before I run out of spray for the time being, When It does I'll get some Ortho to replace the current stuff with, As I like the sprayer that I have(hand pump type), Ortho makes a lousy sprayer compared to Roundup(at least for the type I've seen for sale around here). :D

LOL...
Tried it, too much foam.

I do remember when I moved into the house 30 years ago (I would have been 23 at the time) the neighbors would laugh and point when I mowed the lawn with a can of Stroh's in one hand and the self propelled in the other.

And seldom got through the whole front yard without a couple of refills....me, not the lawnmower.

Nice lawn... LOL. Autumn here and mine is looking very yellow.

Not dead, as it's always a lush green in winter and early summer. you actually reminded me to get the sprinkler out.

No sign of green in my yard yet, but the snow is all gone.
We seem to be about 6 weeks early this year...not that I'm complaining.

I'm eyeballing the boat, thinking about getting that new fish finder and changing the oil in the leg.

Aye. True be that. We are about 6 weeks behind down here. We're getting summer weather in autumn. And summer was crap this year. It's April and it still hasn't rained!

I finally was able to get my sprinklers turned on, now that the threat of freezing temps are gone. My grass is still a bit yellow, but that will change in the coming weeks. Still gotta fertilize it, and that will get it going. And, I got a few brown patches I gotta fix, thanks to my 2 dogs. LOL Funny story Mark, thanks for the laugh! :-)

Your lawn is really beautiful Mark. When I visit Eric's family in Wisconsin, I am always amazed at how much yard space you Wisconsinites have compared to us California city-folk. Eric's parents live so far from neighbors that my mother-in-law gets in her car to go see the family next door. Out here, if I stuck my arm out of my dining room window and my neighbor stuck his arm out of his den, we could probably shake hands! I am definitely jealous!!!

Thanks....I really don't mind the mowing job that much. Just gotta stick to 2nd gear.

It doesn't look quite so pretty when it's only half done.....

Marc I had that exact mower for about 20 years. Worked like a charm around my property but took about 2 and 1/2 hrs to cut my 1 acre lot. When it finally died I started to bring home one of my three Rough mowers from work and it took me about 15 minutes.

I think thats one of the biggest reasons why I've added a few pounds in these last few years. Oh and it does have a cup holder and good suspension so no foam :)

Your lawn looks pretty good to me Mark. My postage stamp of grass is now mainly moss. One of these days I will lift the lot and lay some decent grass, rather than the poor quality stuff the builders put down. I suppose I should put a field drain in as well, as after a day of rain I could grow rice on the "lawn".

I was all set for a first mowing this weekend, but we had a bit of snow Saturday morning, turning into rain later in the day. Heartbroken, I retired to the computer with a glass of sherry, forced to do not much else for the rest of the weekend. Sigh.
