Message 981576 - Posted: 20 Mar 2010, 9:27:51 UTC - in response to Message 981575.

It's Saturday, and all systems at the SETI lab are still up and running.

That's unusual, and not normal.

I fear the worst backlash due to this...

Getting the same here, strange thing is that in BOINC manager, I have over 2 screen fulls of work units to crunch and I dunno why it wants to get more?!?!

Add up the "time to completion" of all those WUs and compare the result to the sum of "Computer is connected to the Internet about every ... days" and "Maintain enough work for an additional ... days" in your preferences.

just had a count through ......... I have

78 WUs @ 00:24:32 est completion time (around 31 hours of work)
26 WUs @ 01:22:02 est completion time (around 35 hours of work)

My Account is set to maintain enough work for an additional 1 day

This may take some time to get through!

I make it that you have about 83 shorties, which have been taking about 315 seconds each on your GPU (5 mins), or about 7 hours work.

Since you have a quad-core 'AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 940 Processor', your crunching days have 96 hours in them.

I'd say you've got too few tasks....

CPDN is happily using all the cores atm and all the seti units are CUDA ... but the actual run time on some units is far shorter than the est runtime .... others take far longer.

Still, on the plus side its been a couple of hours since it last grabbed a load of work units so I'll just let it do its thing.

You could be right, They are all CUDA and on some units the runtime is far shorter, others seem longer. I guess im still used to the units running for hours on the GPU and only getting 10 or 15 each day ........ first time ive had so many. Still, ever onwards :)

Finally got a WU here, but after it telling me it had no work:

SETI@home Message from server: No work can be sent for the applications you have selected
SETI@home Message from server: No work is available for SETI@home Enhanced
SETI@home Message from server: No work is available for Astropulse v5
SETI@home Message from server: You have selected to receive work from other applications if no work is available for the applications you selected
SETI@home Message from server: Sending work from other applications
SETI@home Started download of astropulse_5.05_windows_intelx86.exe

I got one WU which is estimated to run for over 200 hours...on this dual core laptop. While on my quad core I have 35 CUDA23 jobs.
I am not complaining, just making a comment, personally I just sit and wait and things seem to work out in the end.

The scheduler on the server looks in the database for each application you allow in turn. It then checks for any work at all available for any application if you have the allow work from other applications box checked. What happened is that between the check for specific applications and the check for any application the splitter deposited a task into the scheduler for distribution.

While the server may be out of work right now, there is no proof that it will be out of work a millisecond from now.

Look again. He got an Astropulse v505 task, which cannot be selected. They are always only in the "other applications" category. Dunno why the project staff have not yet edited the project_specific_prefs.inc file to make the selections match the available applications.

Good point, and the selection, IMHO, should be defaulted to OFF.
Looking at the few AP tasks in account, most are in the pending tray and are there because at least 50% have had to be re-sent, due to aborts by the original recipient.

Due to size of the AP tasks, 8MBi, they have a tendency to clog up the Berkeley pipe. So having to send three copies, instead of the normal two, cannot be helping.
